Quiroga Jr. driving for RCR at Montreal With Kurt Busch still ailing from injuries suffered at the All-Star Race and substitute driver A.J. Allmendinger otherwise occupied with Bill Davis Racing this weekend, Richard Childress Racing has announced that German Quiroga Jr. will drive the #33 Monster Energy Chevy on Sunday at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, the first ever Cup Series race at the Montreal track. Like Allmendinger did in the Coca-Cola 600 in the #33, Quiroga Jr. will be making his first career Cup Series start. The Mexican driver will only be making his second national stock car attempt as well, having only ever driven in the Nationwide Series once, earlier this season at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, where he finished 28th. Quiroga Jr., however, did recently sign a contract to drive a limited schedule with RCR next year in the Nationwide Series, and was a logical choice. "With German driving for us next year and A.J. already scheduled to drive for another team this weekend, there was only one logical choice, and that was German," said owner Richard Childress. Quiroga Jr. was excited about the opportunity, stating that "This is a dream come true for me, and I really want to do well for all of my friends and family that helped me." Allmendinger has driven the past 4 races for RCR with a best finish of 15th at Dover and Michigan, but will pilot the #23 Oreo Toyota for Bill Davis Racing at Montreal. (ESPN.com) (6/18/07)
