Kyle Busch signs with Roush Racing
Exciting news came out of the Roush Racing shop in Concord, North Carolina today, as the 5-car juggernaut operation announced the addition of Hendrick Motorsports star Kyle Busch to the 2008 driver lineup. In what essentially equates to a trade, Busch will take over the #99 Office Depot Ford being vacated by Carl Edwards, who replaces Busch in Hendricks' #5 Kellogg's Chevy. The move essentially finalizes the seats of the high-profile drivers in the garage area, as only Jeff Burton remains a free agent. Burton, however, is expected to sign with Braun Racing, a team that has taken a major step forward this season with Bobby Hamilton Jr. "Adding a driver like Kyle who is so young but so talented is something every owner dreams of," said Jack Roush. "While some may criticize him for not having ever won a race before, I don't think that's a good justification. There's plenty of guys out there that don't get their first win for a while that are plenty talented. I mean, Mark Martin was in the series for almost 10 years before he got his first win, and Casey Mears has been around since 2003 and didn't get his first win until Daytona this year. It's just getting over that hump, and I know Kyle is one of the most talented guys in the garage and can easily get it done." Busch was just as enthusiastic as Roush, stating that "I am so excited for next season. Obviously being able to drive for the team that won the championship last season is a huge benefit, and there's gonna be a lot of good things going on at Roush. I've seen a lot of their COT development and they're pulling out all the stops. Having Matt and Greg as champion teammates is really exciting too, and I think the combination of youth and experience that we'll have there next season with Todd in his second season and David as a rookie is going to provide a lot of fun moments." Busch currently sits 2nd in points with 0 wins, 2 top 5s, and 6 top 10s in 15 races. He finished his rookie season in 2005 in 21st place with 2 top 5s, 9 top 10s, and 2 poles, and finished 2006 in 19th place with 4 top 5s and 7 top 10s to go with 1 pole, proving that thus far, 2007 has been his breakout campaign despite not having earned a victory yet.
