Brian Keselowski and Jimmy Means team up, add drivers
Brian Keselowski has no racing activity at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Sunday, but that didn't stop the 2nd generation NASCAR driver from being there. "I'm here just to have a good time and enjoy the show. I know these boys are gonna put on a heckuva race up here, and these fans are awesome," said Keselowski in an interview with MRN Radio's Dustin Long. But on a more serious note, Keselowski did tell Long that his underfunded, struggling Busch Series operation will merge with another similarly struggling team for next season, Means Racing. Keselowski and Jimmy Means reportedly met over the weekend, made a list of drivers, and signed them over the phone. "Me and Jimmy sat down and realized, both of us are in big trouble for next season with how many teams are gonna be showing up on a weekly basis," the son of former Truck Series driver Bob Keselowski recalled. "We said, neither one of us has a shot at making any of these races, so why not merge our teams and pool our resources?" According to Keselowski, the team will retain K Automotive's name and number, but will field Dodge Charger's next season. In addition to Keselowski running the occasional race and Donnie Neuenberger remaining with Means (his contract was through 2008), the team will add Truck Series drivers Johnny Chapman, Donny Lia, Clay Rogers, and Patrick Sheltra in an attempt to drum up as much funding as possible. "We've got no real sponsors, but we're really hoping that having a wide variety of drivers will encourage a company to pony up the cash for at least one individual driver, and we'll start off that way," said now co-owner Means in a phone call. "Sometimes it takes a drastic move like this to get started. Things are so competitive that you just can't do things the way you've always done them." None of the new driver additions were available for comment except Sheltra, who said, "Brian and Jimmy are some of the real good guys in this sport. With our series shutting down they came to me and few other guys and said look, we've got no cash but we want to keep you guys employed, do we have a deal? And of course we all said yes."
