A month and a half ago, I was forced to abandon my previous mock season project (The All-Star Cup Series) due to computer problems. Well, as I reported earlier this week, my computer has returned, and since then I've been thinking of my latest mock season project...and last night, I got the perfect idea.
Citizens of NR2003 Mock Season, I proudly present...The New International Race of Champions!
If you haven't already guessed, this is a reincarnation of IROC, which left existence in 2007. My goal here is to not just give this amazing idea new life, but also give it much needed improvements that probably could have saved real IROC all those years ago.
First and foremost, the field will contain 20 drivers. No more, no less. Drivers will come from various motorsports leagues; NASCAR, ARCA, IndyCar, Indy Lights, F1, and any other motorsport league I haven't mentioned here. All drivers will run the default Chevy body in NR2002. I would've used Pontiac if GM hadn't given it the axe a few years back. The paint schemes...well, I've said before that I have no painting skills whatsoever, but with the in-game paint shop by my side, I've conjured up paint schemes that at least emulate what you'd expect to see in something like this. They're basically just cars that have one single color on the main body, but the text (which consists of NIROC in big letters on the hood, the driver's last name on the rear bumper, and the driver's number on the sides and roof) is a different color. You'll see what I mean in the driver list below. I know they're not the best paint scheme imaginable, but without proper painting skills, what else can I do?
I'm still working on the schedule, but right now I can say that it will be 8 races long, twice as much as IROC schedules used to be. In the meantime, I present you the driver list:
Representing NASCAR:
#48 Jimmie Johnson (6-time Sprint Cup Champion) White text on dark blue body
#24 Jeff Gordon (4-time Sprint Cup Champion) White text on Crimson red body
#88 Dale Earnhardt Jr. (2014 Daytona 500 Champion) Red text on white body
#14 Tony Stewart (3-Time Sprint Cup Champion and Champion of IROC's last season in 2006) Black text on dark orange body
#2 Brad Keselowski (2012 Sprint Cup Champion) White text on dark blue body (Darker blue than Johnson)
#17 Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (2013 Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year) White text on light blue body
#3 Austin Dillon (2013 Nationwide Series Champion) White text on black body
#98 Matt Crafton (2013 Camping World Truck Series Champion) Black text on yellow body
Representing IndyCar:
#9 Scott Dixon (2013 IndyCar Champion) White text on red body
#10 Tony Kanaan (2013 Indy 500 Champion) Red text on silver body, like his ride from this year's Indy 500
#28 Ryan Hunter-Reay (2012 IndyCar Champion and 2014 Indy 500 Champion) Red text on yellow body (Yellow is same shade as his IndyCar)
Representing Indy Lights:
#22 Sage Karam (2013 Indy Lights Champion) Yellow text on black body (Same colors as his 2014 Indy 500 ride)
Representing F1:
#1 Sebastian Vettel (4-time F1 champion) Red text on dark blue body
#6 Nico Rosberg (Currently dominating everything F1 right now) Black text on dark teal body
#44 Lewis Hamilton (Also currently dominating everything F1 roght now, though not as much as Rosberg) Dark teal text on black body
Representing ARCA:
#46 Frank Kimmel (10-time ARCA Champion) Yelow text on pinkish-red body
If you couldn't already tell, that's only 16 drivers on the entry list so far. Who will be the other four? Well...I'm gonna need a little help deciding that. Leave a comment telling me which ACTIVE (not retired) drivers you think should get the honor of taking part in this reinstatement of a great idea. You can recommend drivers from any already-mentioned series, or from a division that I didn't mention here. When listing recommendations, be sure to also list the body and text colors that the driver would use if chosen for the series. How will I choose who gets in? Well, I won't go into that until I get some suggestions from you guys. So respond with your driver ideas, and I'll make my next move on Monday!
