Cassill returning to Hendrick Hendrick Motorsports and Landon Cassill announced a contract extension this morning from the team's headquarters in Charlotte. Cassill, who had driven the #24 National Guard Chevy in the Busch Series in addition to a limited schedule in the #44 Cup Series Chevy, will no longer run full-time with the organization in Nationwide. Cassill will run 12 races in the #48 DuPont Chevy in the Nationwide Series in addition to the races that Carl Edwards cannot make in the #5 Lowe's Chevy, while expanding his part-time Cup Series status with 10 races in the #57 car, which he will share with Bill Elliott. "I'm super excited to stay with Hendrick Motorsports. While I won't be running for a championship, I'll still be helping the 5 team win the owner's championship and running in the best equipment known to NASCAR with Hendrick engines and chassis, so I have nothing to complain about," said Cassill. "I think being able to contend for wins whenever I buckle into the car, even if part-time, is a much better option than remaining stagnant in 26th place with a full-time but underperforming team." It is unclear at the moment how many times Cassill will run the 5 car for Edwards. (NASCAR.com) (7/3/07)
