Sprint announces 2008 Spectacular Summer Series
Sprint, the soon-to-be title sponsor of the current NASCAR Nextel Cup Series, announced an exciting new promotion with incentives for drivers, fans, and charities. Starting with the Canadian Tire Challenge II at Circuit Gilles Villenueve in Montreal on June 22nd, the 2008 Spectacular Summer Series will place an extra incentive on winning races through the 3M Performance 400 at Michigan International Speedway on August 17th. If a driver wins one of the races from Montreal through Michigan, then that driver has a chance to earn $1 million for himself, his preferred charity, and one lucky fan if he can win the Sharpie 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. In addition, once a driver wins one of the qualifying races, they will race with a yellow roof number and yellow spoiler to distinguish themselves as a participant in the competition. "I think that this is a really unique opportunity for the drivers to have an extra incentive on getting to Victory Lane," said Sprint CEO Dan Hesse. "There hasn't been something like this in the top tier of NASCAR in several years, and I think Sprint's entrance as title sponsor coinciding with this new contest is a really cool way to get fans excited about NASCAR. Plus, the contest is going to go through a wide variety of tracks, so a lot of different faces will have the opportunity to go for the big prize."
The contest will run at the following 8 events:
1. Canadian Tire Challenge II (Circuit Gilles Villeneuve)
2. Pepsi 400 (California Speedway)
3. Coke Zero 400 (Daytona International Speedway)
4. Allstate 400 (Indianapolis Motor Speedway)
5. Home Depot 350 (Gateway International Raceway)
6. Sunoco/American Red Cross 400 (Pocono Raceway)
7. Centurion Boats at The Glen (Watkins Glen International)
8. 3M Performance 400 (Michigan International Speedway)
Championship Race: Sharpie 500 (Bristol Motor Speedway)

OOC: This is pretty much just an extended version of the Sprint Summer Showdown that ran in 2011 but was never brought back since not enough people switched to Sprint for it.
