As we prepare to close out the first half of the 2007 Cup season, I have a few things to say before Daytona lights up Saturday night.
Let's get the big highlight out of the way first. 2004 champ Kurt Busch, 1.5 months after that harrowing crash at Charlotte, is finally ready to go again! I spoke with Busch after first practice earlier today, and he wants us to know that he's looking to finish out this season on a strong note, even though his championship hopes pretty much faded into oblivion after his injury. I expect to see that 33 car in victory lane again before the season's over.
As for what to expect Saturday night...well, every time NASCAR races here in Daytona Beach, we know everyone's gonna be in it to win it! That said, we should expect a lot of lead changes, increased drama in the closing laps, and maybe an upset winner like Derrike Cope might have been at Talladega back in May if he just had another lap or two. Bottom line: If you thought this year's Daytona 500 was unpredictable, you ain't seen nothin' yet!
