From NASCAR.com:
A former NASCAR Championship owner rumored to be making a return to Sprint Cup in 2012 or 2013.
As the Sprint Cup drivers travled west to Las Vegas for their next race, and the rumored debut of Curtis Key in cup in the near future, another name has popped up about returning to the Cup Series after many years.
Brian France, CEO and Chairman of NASCAR, had this to say. "I was quite shocked this week when (unamed owner) came to me and talked about his return. At this time both he and NASCAR officials have decided to keep his idenity from the press until it is offical, but I can confirm that this owner has won championships and races with his drivers."
The rumors going around are claiming that this owner has won multiple championships and races and that when fans hear the name, France said quote"Hell would freeze over."

More from NASCAR.com
A hour after Jamie McMurray won the pole for the Vegas race, drivers reported to the media center to talk about various things including the announcement of The Motorsports Group(TMG) debuting in the Cup Series as well as a former championship owner returning.
Notes on The Motorsports Group coming to the Cup Series:
"If it creates more talented drivers and gives people more jobs, I think this is all for the best" Tony Stewart said after qualifying in 6th."I know a lot of people questioned me debuting Stewart-Haas Racing several years ago, but we already have several wins and a championship under our belt."
However, Kurt Busch wasn't as happy as Stewart: "I personally think that TMG should stay in the Nationwide or Truck Series, I believe the top series should not have a start and park team." Even as he said that, several reporters shot back that he(Kurt) was driving for Phoenix Racing, a team that debuted the "start and park" back in 2004. "That was because Mr. Finch couldn't find much sponsorship, today in 2012 we are able to race without that much worry."
Rumors on Championship owner returning:
"I've heard the rumors as much as you guys have over the past few days" four time champion Jeff Gordon said "I personally have no idea who it is, but I believe this will only help NASCAR and help give Hendrick Motorsports some more challenges in the years to come.
"As of this time, we are once again not allowed to announce officially just who the owner is, but we can confirm that he has set many records in NASCAR" Mike Helton said as the media center went quiet as he spoke, trying to find any trace or hint of who it could be "The last Brian France spoke with him(the unnamed owner), an official announcement should be made around Martinsville or Texas."
Before Mike Hilton could leave a reporter asked "Will there be any changes to the Cup Series schedule in 2013?"Hilton looked at the reported and replied "Currently we have a good relationship with all the tracks...however we are in talks right now of returning to a track that has been missing off the Cup schedule for a very long time, aside from that I am not allowed to go into any further details."

From NASCAR.com:
As drivers and teams traveled across the country to Bristol for the fourth race of the season a private test was held at a track in Wisconsin several reporters were there to try and get a shot of who the owner and car was. NASCAR President Mike Helton was on hand for the test and he officially allowed reporters to take shots of the car on track. To many reporters surprise it was the car design of legendary NASCAR owner Carl Kiekhaefer.
The driver of the car is unknown but the number is clearly 299. Mike Helton would not reply if this was a special car that would go into the Hall of Fame building or if this was the rumored championship owner who would be returning. "Of course as we all know, Mr. Kiekhaefer passed away in 1983, after almost twenty years we felt it was the right thing to honor him with this car being on track." When asked if this was in fact the owner that would return Helton would not give a clear answer. "As I said before, the owner passed away years ago."
Other owners who have been rumored of return have been Robert Yates Racing and Junior Johnson.
