After finding the root of the problem with constant wrecking on short tracks and a few other tracks such as Pocono and Sears Point, I have restarted the 1989 season. Expect different results. Busch Clash of '89The first race of the preseason involving a ten car, 20 lap shootout. The entrants were:
#2 Dennis Malone #3 Dale Earnhardt #5 Geoff Bodine #9 Bill Elliott #13 Andy Sammonds #17 Darrell Waltrip #27 Rusty Wallace #42 Kyle Petty #43 Richard Petty #94 Sterling Marlin
Waltrip drew the pole.
The race was caution-free, and every driver except Elliott led at least one lap. Geoff Bodine won the race.

1989 Daytona 500Speedweeks 1989 has come to an end. And what a Speedweek it was. Ben Hess (driver of the car #40 in the Winston Cup) won the ARCA race, while Darrell Waltrip won the Goody's 300 Busch Grand National race.
Now we come to the Daytona 500. Davey Allison started on the pole, while defending series champion Andy Sammonds started 11th.
The race was mostly caution-free, only marred by two cautions. The first caution involved Bill Elliott and Dave Marcis making contact, sending Elliott's car into a wild flip. The second involved Alan Kulwicki getting loose in the trioval, hitting the wall and collecting Darrell Waltrip and Dick Trickle (running a fulltime schedule to compete for rookie of the year).
When all was said and done, Rusty Wallace captured the checkers, winning his first Daytona 500. The race was unique in that two drivers were tied for most laps led: race winner Rusty Wallace and rookie Katie Sammonds (driving the #72 car for Pacific Coast Racing), who finished sixth. Katie's teammate and twin brother, Andy, finished 24th off the lead lap, failing to lead a lap. Katie, meanwhile, became the highest-finishing woman in Daytona 500 history, and was also the first woman to lead a lap in the Daytona 500, as well as the youngest, at the age of 19.
Next week, the stars of the Winston Cup Series head to Rockingham for the Goodwrench 500. Catch it on ESPN!
