So, now that teams have been assigned to those who desired one, I'd like to go over a little bit of etiquette so that everyone enjoys the process.
1. Professionalism - I'd like to keep things as professional as I can (****cough GRAMMAR cough**** - I'm a bit of a grammar stickler, but I will obviously understand if you are not a native English speaker). Occasionally, I may use parentheses with OOC:, which means out of context. But for the most part, I'd like to treat negotiations as if they were a real thing. For example, I already have sent one user a message regarding a contract extension from a sponsor. I addressed it to Mr. Davis (for Bill Davis Racing), and signed off as the CEO of the company looking to make arrangements. So there is a lot of roleplaying that I will be doing, but I think it could be pretty fun.
2. Frustration - Don't get frustrated if you try to negotiate and I am not cooperating as you would like me to. I'm serving as an unbiased overseer, and am only doing what I feel is best for the person I am serving as. For example, if I am roleplaying as Carl Edwards and you own a backmarker team, I may flat out respond to a message saying, "I'm not interested at all in your team". Don't be discouraged by that, I am hoping to keep things realistic and part of that is that the driver will do what is best for the driver. I'm not playing favorites at all, trust me. I'm thrilled to be able to run my mock season and have other people interested enough that they want to have a say in what goes on, so I can tell you flat out right now that I have no intention to alienate people.
3. General negotiations - Here's how I envision things working out. You, the users who own teams, will message me first regarding driver contracts. I, roleplaying as the sponsors, will message the users regarding sponsor negotiations. Sometimes, I may send a PM that basically says, "Sponsor XYZ will not renew its contract at the end of the season". In addition, I'll allow exceptions to these guidelines towards the latter half of the season. If we get to, say, race 24, I may PM an owner (roleplaying as a driver) saying, "Hey, the season's winding down and my options are running out. Are we going to re-up our contract or should I start looking elsewhere?" Also, you guys can send me a PM, saying, "Driver XYZ, we're sorry to inform you but we are moving in a different direction with our goals for next season". Basically, there is a lot of ambiguity involved in this so this is the spot where you guys will hopefully have fun being able to control your team somewhat.
4. Patience - Be patient! Race 2 is actually in progress as I type this, but the game could crash since I'm now on a Windows 8 laptop. In addition, I may not always have time to run races consistently with my busy schedule, so don't fret if a week goes by without updates. Regarding the race schedule, remember that in terms of the calendar, it is still February! Most major free agent contracts aren't signed until the beginning of summer or later, so if you message me after 3 races and respond with a "I'm not ready to make a decision yet, I'll get back to you later", don't be upset. I don't want to jump to have everything happen sooner rather than later, I'd prefer an even, spread-out chain of silly season news to keep interest high.
5. Paint schemes - Big one right here. First things first. If a manufacturer and sponsor combination are accurate to the real life season, I will use the real-life paint scheme. No ifs, ands, or buts. Even if the tiny little driver signature reads Denny Hamlin but in the mock season J.J. Yeley runs the car, I will use one readily available. I don't have much time to paint, so anyway I can shave time I will. Now, the issue of custom car painting. I'm totally aware that some of you many not paint, or may be inexperienced painters. I'm totally alright with that, because I do have the ability to paint (though not very complex schemes). If you do want to paint your own car though, I'm cool with that. Just send me the .psd flat AND a render of it, and I'll take a look at it. If it's a sloppily put together scheme, I may just decline the offer and make one myself, or I may work with the .psd flat you give me to clean it up. I don't want half-assed cars in my mock season; the amount of effort I've put in for it does not make me a fan of that idea. If you want your scheme to be used in-game, just make it clean and presentable.
6. Reminders - I will send an OOC message every 2 weeks letting people know what contracts are still up in the air for the upcoming season.
That's all I can think of for right now....if you have any questions or suggestions just post below.
