From NASCAR.com:
As Jeff Gordon and Hendrick Motorsports continued to celebrated their win at Texas, teams made their way to Kanas for the eight stop of the 2012 season.
Joe Gibbs sat down before practice and talked briefly about the #18 and Kyle Busch "Last week we made a team effort and it was decided to take a week off and see where we wanted to go and the fans have spoken so replacing Kyle in the 18 will be long time truck series driver Joe Ruttman." As Ruttman entered the media room, reporters stood up to a standing ovation to the 67 year old veteran who sat down and spoke. "I will be completely honest I am surprised at the results of the poll." said Ruttman who has run 255 races in the Cup Series but none since 2004. "I will make the most of this chance given to me and help keep the #18 in the Top 36 in Owner Points."
Kyle Busch has moved on from JGR and has entered week two as a car owner in the Cup Series and will have Nationwide sponsor Monster Energy on his car this week. Kyle had the 25th fastest time in practice.
For the second race in a row, James Finch will tap Bobby Hamilton Jr. as driver of the #09 car. "Last week Hamilton didn't have much of a chance to show what he had after being in a early wreck, I still have faith he can bring us closer to the Top 36 in Owner Points." When asked about Kurt, Finch smiled proudly. "Kurt is doing an amazing job and seems to have matured in the short time we've been together, he's solidly in 7th in the Chase right now and I have to admit if he wins one more race, I will personally sign Kurt to a two year contract with Phoenix Racing.
Brian Keselowski, older brother to Brad Keselowski, will be trying to make his first start of 2012 by driving his own #92 Brian Keselowski Motorsports Dodge.
It has been confirmed that NASCAR will be returning to the Twin Ring Motegi in Motegi, Japan at the end of the season. "We talked it out with the people there and it has been decided that after Homestead-Miami there will be a two week break before traveling there for the event." NASCAR President Mike Helton announced. "Also after our race this weekend, the Cup Series will be heading to the Calder Park Raceway in Australia for the first time since 1988 to run 200 laps."
One driver rumored for the Australia event is Hendrick Motorsports Alumni Jerry Nadeau. Nadeau was injured in a practice session at Richmond on May 2, 2003 while driving for MBV Motorsports and suffered a skull fracture among other injures and only had a 6% chance of surviving. Almost a full decade has gone by and while it was worried he'd never race again, Nadeau walked into the media center as a surprise guest. "I understand NASCAR is worried about my health and I totally understand it, but my doctors said I have healed up to 99% as of today, the only problem I have is a small loss of feeling in my left arm but that shouldn't stop me from racing in Australia."
Mike Helton then commented "Nadeau's health comes first and we worry after the injuries he suffered if he should race, after talking to the doctors we have accepted Nadeau's request to allow him to race whenever he wishes again." Nadeau will be driving for his own team, Nadeau Motorsports and will have a working relationship with Hermie Sadler and his sponsor will be Little Trees / Autism Speaks
