Mike Dillon Racing announces formation Mike Dillon, father of up-and-coming stars Austin and Ty Dillon and son-in-law of Richard Childress, announced the formation of Mike Dillon Racing this morning. The team is acquiring assets of soon-to-be shuttered Frank Cicci Racing and will use hand-me-down RCR equipment as they attempt to run a full schedule in the 2008 NASCAR Nationwide Series season in the #34 Chevy. Dillon will have 8 drivers rotating throughout the season, and has received enough sponsorship to cover 30 of the 36 races in the season. "I'm excited to take the leap into team ownership," said the former NASCAR Busch Series driver. "Racing is my lifelong passion, and to have the chance to be the head of an organization is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spread that passion around. I want to give a lot of drivers the opportunity that I had, so we will be a team modeled after Junie Donlavey to give young and old drivers a shot." Austin Dillon will drive several races in the #34, and will be joined by journeyman veteran Chad Chaffin, recently re-instated driver Aaron Fike, Justin Labonte, J.R. Norris, Shane Sieg, Chase Pistone, and dirt-track driver Jimmy Phelps. BB&T and Team Realtree, two RCR-related sponsors, will cover several races as sponsor, as will new sponsor Vectren. Amkor Technology, Rockstar Energy Drink, the U.S. Coast Guard, and Fidelity Investments will also reportedly serve as a primary sponsor during the season. (SPEED.com) (9/22/07)
