U.S. Army resigns with MB2 MB2 Motorsports announced this morning that the U.S. Army will sign a one-year deal with the team for 2008 primary sponsorship of Joe Nemechek. Army has sponsored the #01 team since 2003, continually signing one-year contracts in accordance with other government-controlled organizations that have sponsored NASCAR teams. Nemechek has driven the #01 for every year of the sponsorship except for 2003, when Jerry Nadeau started with the team only to be seriously injured. Nemechek and MB2 have seen modest success together, gathering up 4 wins, 10 top 5s, 35 top 10s, and 5 poles in 3 full seasons with a 7th place points finish in 2005 the team's high-water mark. So far in 2007, Nemechek ranks 10th in points with 1 top 10 finish in 2 races. "The Army has been a fabulous sponsor of us 5 years, and we are glad to be able to start another 5 years," said co-owner Nelson Bowers. "To have the 01 car number partnered with the Army's slogan of An Army of One is a really unique marketing opportunity, and we are excited to represent all of our soldiers here and throughout the world who are serving our country to protect our freedoms." Nemechek is one of 2 MB2 teams, with Johnny Sauter as a teammate driving the #78 Chevy. (ESPN.com) (2/28/07).
