Sauter docked 50 points NASCAR announced this afternoon that Johnny Sauter, driver of the #78 Furniture Row Chevy, has been docked 50 driver points and fined $50,000 following a violation of Section 12-1 of the NASCAR rulebook, "Actions detrimental to stock car racing". Also, car owner Nelson Bowers has been docked 50 owner points and crew chief Jay Guy has been fined $25,000. Sauter was determined to have ignored a blue and yellow flag with 4 laps remaining as race leader Ryan Newman approached him. He did not give way to the leader, and it resulted in Kevin Harvick stealing the victory from Newman. Sauter declined comments following the race, and there do not appear to be any prior incidents between the two drivers that would have resulted in Sauter intentionally blocking Newman. The #78 team reportedly will not appeal the penalty. (SPEED) (10/2/07)
