Allmendinger to drive 4 races for BDR
Bill Davis Racing announced this afternoon that Champ Car star an open-wheel convert A.J. Allmendinger will attempt to qualify for 4 races in the #23 Toyota later this season. Allmendinger left open-wheel racing after 2006 with a driver development from Chip Ganassi Racing in hand, and is a part of that team's Busch Series operation. He will attempt to qualify the #23 Toyota for BDR at two road course events, Sonoma and Montreal, in addition to two oval events, Bristol and the fall Atlanta event. Allmendinger will bring partial sponsorship from Nabisco's Oreo brand for the four races, allowing BDR to announce a new, adjusted schedule for the #23 research and development team. Johnny Benson will remain in the seat for 11 more races with Allmendinger signed up for 4, an increase from the originally planned 10 race slate. Allmendinger was unable to make the announcement, but Davis read a prepared statement: "I'd like to thank Bill Davis and Oreo for allowing me to pursue a career in the Nextel Cup Series so soon after my switch to stock car racing. I look forward to the attempt to sharpen my oval track skills in addition to the always-exciting road course races. I am very grateful for the opportunity I have and look forward to these 4 events."
Here is the updated schedule for the #23 team:
