Race-by-Race Chart
2008 Season Outlook
Bill Davis Racing expands to two full-time Toyotas in 2008, bumping the #23 from part-time status to full-time. Johnny Benson had a few excellent runs in 2007, and that helped to attract the sponsorship of Whirlpool and J.B. Hunt for 2008. Benson, however, will serve in a mentor role to sophomore Denny Hamlin, who leaves Phoenix Racing to pursue a better full-time ride. Hamlin will be entering a critical season, as his stock has fallen dramatically since 2005. Hamlin competed that season with J.J. Yeley in a part-time Joe Gibbs Racing car for the #11 seat in 2006, and Yeley won it over Hamlin. After 2006, Hamlin left JGR, as he was in a roadblock, but struggled to qualify with Phoenix, making just 17 of 36 starts. With no owner points behind him for 2008, expect Hamlin's struggles to continue in a make-or-break season for the Virginian.
