2008 Season Outlook
Elliott Sadler's career has been as topsy-turvy as his experiences at Talladega. His two wild flips at the superspeedway in 2003 and 2004 represent the two types of wildly different seasons he has put together in his career. For the first 5 years of his career, Sadler was a mid-pack driver, stealing one win at Bristol in 2001 but only finishing in the top 20 in points once. But in 2004, he broke out, making the Chase and picking up 2 wins en route to a 9th place finish. He regressed backwards slightly in 2005, dropping to 17th, but still had vastly stronger numbers than those of his first 5 seasons. In 2006, he broke out even more, picking up 3 wins and 14 top 5s on his way to a runner up finish in points. But last season, the wheels fell off the Sadler train. He picked up just 3 top 5s and no wins, falling all the way to 23rd in points. In 2008, Sadler will have a new crew chief in Cully Barraclough, who will attempt to fix the #38 team. But until consistent performance is demonstrated, one can't expect Sadler to be a legitimate Chase contender.
