2008 Season Outlook
Penske Racing, fresh off its 2nd championship in 3 years, adds a part-time team for up-and-coming IRL convert Sam Hornish Jr. in 2008. Hornish Jr. will be behind the wheel of the #39 Dodge for 2 races, at Watkins Glen and Homestead, as he continues to develop and prepare for a full-time Cup Series run. It remains to be seen whether or not that full-time run will be 2009 or 2010, but these two starts could play a big part in Penske's decision making. With top-notch equipment under his belt, Hornish Jr. will have high expectations placed upon him. But the difference between the NNS and NSCS cars is pretty big, so Hornish Jr. will probably struggle in his limited Cup action.
