2008 Season Outlook
The #45 Petty Enterprises Dodge will drop from full-time to part-time status in 2008, as driver Kyle Petty has retired and primary sponsor Wells Fargo ran into financial woes and terminated its contract with the team. Taking over for 7 of the 10 scheduled races will be journeyman driver Mike Wallace, who has competed in the last 16 seasons but has yet to make every start in a season. Last year Wallace began with McClure Motorsports before the team dissolved early on, and Wallace didn't race again after that. He has a lot of experience, though, and should help the team, particularly on the plate tracks at which he excels. Joining Wallace for the road course events is Ron Fellows, a road specialist. Fellows has competed exclusively on road courses in his Cup career, which has spanned 11 years but covered just 18 races. He's earned 4 top 5s in that span, including one last year. He'll definitely keep the #45 relevant on the road courses in 2008.
