2008 Season Outlook
Though he failed to win a race, Jeremy Mayfield couldn't be happier with how his comeback attempt went. After a great 2004 campaign with his miracle victory and a Chase berth, many thought Mayfield was set to make a lot of noise at Evernham. But he faded significantly in 2005, dropping to 22nd in points with just 3 top 5s, and lost his ride with the team. Mayfield moved to a part-time gig at Richard Childress Racing, hoping he could have great results in his limited action that would re-earn him a full-time gig with a competitive team. He got that opportunity when Dale Jarrett retired and opened up the #88 seat at Robert Yates Racing, and Mayfield jumped back to 15th in the standings. It was vindicating for Mayfield, as he proved that he could still be a competitive driver. He'll have a new crew chief in 2008, however, as RYR slipped from it's 2006 performance and hopes that mixing things up will provide a spark. Todd Parrott is a great crew chief, so Mayfield should be in good shape to finally make another Chase run in 2008.
