2008 Season Outlook
Michael McDowell returns to Michael Waltrip Racing in 2008 in a driver-development team. McDowell will run the #00 Toyota for MWR for just 6 races as he prepares to become Waltrip's replacement in the Cup Series beginning in either 2010 or 2011, assuming McDowell stays on track with his current progress. Ryan Pemberton will serve as crew chief for the #00 team, meaning McDowell will have excellent guidance and will drive strong equipment in each race. With the Cup Series moving to the COT, more cars are available for NNS use, so McDowell should have some of MWR's best stuff in his limited action. But despite that strength, fans shouldn't expect McDowell to light the world on fire. He is just 23 years old, so he will need more time to adjust to the higher-powered cars.
