It was a clear day in Asheville, North Carolina as the NASCAR Convertible Series made their 40th stop of the 1956 season at the McCormick Field.

Joe Weatherly led a field of seventeen drivers to the Green Flag in front of a crowd of 2,500 fans but it was his Pete DePaolo teammate Curtis Turner who would get a run on the outside coming out of Turn 2 as Turner would drop down to the inside line and would lead the first lap as Turner showed the power once again that his Ford had as he would completely dominate a race yet again as he would easily lead every single lap on his way to his 13th win of 1956.

Race #41 - Chicagoland 500

It was a clear day in Chicago, North Carolina as the NASCAR Convertible Series made their 41st stop of the 1956 season at Soldier Field for the Chicagoland 500.

Joe Weatherly led the field to the Green Flag for the second race in a row in front of a crowd of 38,000 fans and unlike at McCormick Field, Weatherly was able to lead the first lap, in fact it took his Pete DePaolo teammate Curtis Turner 45 laps before he took over the top spot. Turner would lead for awhile as would Norman Schihl, points leader Bob Welborn and Bun Emery as it appeared Emery was on his way to victory; enter Curtis Turner. Unlike at McCormick Field where he led every single lap, Turner took waited for the right time, taking the lead with fifty nine laps to go and would hold off team-mate Weatherly for his second win in a row and 14th in 1956.
