1991 Diet Coke 500 The third of ten restrictor-plate races this year, the Coca-Cola Superspeedway has been on the Winston Cup Series schedule since 1988. Belle Johnson managed to get her first career pole. Highlight of the day: The car on the far left is Belle Johnsons car. As you can see, Michael Waltrip takes a wild ride down the backstretch. All involved were uninjured. At the end of another exciting Coca-Cola race, Morgan Shepard managed to hold off Andy Sammonds for his first win of the season. Belle Johnson managed to come home 15th, one lap down, while Katie Sammonds crashed. For the first time in ten years, NASCAR will once again race at Texas World Speedway. It's all next Sunday on ABC!

1991 Texas 400 NASCAR made its highly-anticipated return to Texas World Speedway, having left the track in 1981 due to the track's dilapidated condition. New owners came in and fixed the place up, and NASCAR was satisfied enough to revive the Budweiser NASCAR 400 under a new name: the Texas 400. Davey Allison started on the pole for the race. The race featured alot of side-by-side racing. Pacific Coast Racing, being an expert on the intermediates, had a fantastic day. Although Katie Sammonds was involved in a crash, Andy finished third, and Belle Johnson... Got her first career win. The closing stages are known in NASCAR lore as "Husband vs Wife", much in the same vein as Andy and Katie's battle at the 1989 edition of The Winston, which is known as "Brother vs Sister". Remember how I said Katie was the first woman to win in NASCAR? Yeah, turns out I didn't do enough research. Shawna Robinson won a few Goody's Dash races in the late 80s. But Katie still has the bigger achievement by not only winning at the Cup level, but winning a championship. With Andy's strong finish, he is now the points leader. Next week, the Winston Cup Series returns to Darlington. We're sure it won't be sabotaged.

1991 TranSouth 500 Davey Allison got his second straight pole for NASCARs return to Darlington. Andy Sammonds dominated early in the going, before the caution came during a green flag pit cycle. As a result, Morgan Shepard inherited the lead and cruised to his second win of the season. Katie Sammonds finished tenth, Kelly Walker got her first career top 5 by finishing fourth, and Belle Johnson finished a solid eight. Next stop: Bristol.

1991 Valleydale Meats 500 Another race at Bristol, another short track doozy. NOT. Yes, surprisingly, this race was pretty clean, if you don't count this crash: Belle Johnson got her second career pole, and was a contender for the win. In fact, all three PCR cars did very well, as short tracks have had a history of being unkind to them. Belle ultimately crashed late in the going, while Katie Sammonds was relegated off the lead lap, and Andy Sammonds finished second to the race winner, Ken Schrader. Next stop: North Wilkesboro.

1991 First Union 400 North Wilkesboro is a unique short track on the Cup Series schedule. It has an uphill frontstretch, and a downhill backstretch. Andy Sammonds started on the pole, and was an early favorite to win before he was relegated off the lead lap and later crashed. Belle Johnson was a frontrunner for much of the day until she was taken out by a failed camshaft late in the going. Katie Sammonds was the only PCR car to finish, albeit off the lead lap. Meanwhile, Darrell Waltrip got his first win of the season, and first win as an owner-driver, having parted ways with Rick Hendrick. Next stop: Martinsville.

1991 Hanes 500 The third and final race of the short track swing, NASCARs return to Martinsville was another typical short track doozy. PCR had an up-and-down day. None of them finished on the lead lap, but Belle Johnson still managed to rally for fifth. The Sammonds twins were involved in multiple wrecks yet still continued on. Through the chaos, Darrell Waltrip got his second consecutive win. Next stop: Talladega.

1991 Winston 500 From the paperclip to the high banks and high speeds of Talladega, NASCARs schedule is diverse. Jimmy Means started on the pole. The race featured drivers waiting each other out, and several crashes, including "The Big One": Through the chaos, Bobby Hamilton, running for Rookie of the Year honors, got his first career win. Ken Schrader is the current points leader, while Andy Sammonds, who finished fourth in the Winston 500, is close behind by 35 points. Next week, NASCAR travels to a brand-new track financed and operated by Levi Strauss. It's the Levi Struass 500 at Levi Strauss Signature Speedway on ABC!

Levi Strauss 500 Levi Strauss Signature Speedway was financed by the Levi Strauss corporation itself. The track has been a popular stop on the NASCAR Winston Modified Tour since its opening in 1989. Now, NASCAR has brought the Winston Cup Series to the facility to see if further Cup races would be feasible. It...was an interesting experiment. For one thing, the track was so small that a full 42 car field couldn't fit safely, so it was cut down to 29 cars. For another, much of the race was a wreck-fest. This was the first caution: Bobby Hamilton, last week's winner, was uninjured. Ricky Rudd took the checkers, with Richard Petty finishing second. NASCAR has stated that no further Cup Series races will be held at the facility due to the quality of racing. In the points, Andy Sammonds is now two points behind Ken Schrader in his quest for a second championship. For the next two weeks, NASCAR will be in Charlotte, first for The Winston, then the Coca-Cola 600.

1991 Winston Open The race to decide who makes it to The Winston. That is what was run today. Kelly Walker started on the pole for the 120-lap feature, and ultimately finished second to Dale Earnhardt, who transferred to the main event. The legends race was also run, but it's just like OTL (as in, legends cars on the quarter-mile oval), so Elmo Langely won. Up next is The Winston.

The Winston VII The seventh edition of The Winston was an impressive chess match. Belle Johnson led early, before Andy Sammonds took the lead. He would have won, too, had it not been for a hard-charging Dale Earnhardt, who passed him in the closing stages for the win. We're staying here at Charlotte for the Coca-Cola 600.
