Andy Sammonds Wins 1991 Winston Cup Series Championship
Sammonds finished third in the Hardee's 500 to take his second Winston Cup Series championship. Sammonds had fought through early-season adversity to go on a midseason hot-streak, having to fend off Ricky Rudd, Mark Martin, and his own wife, Belle Johnson, to get here.
Johnson herself finished second in points, and easily captured Rookie of the Year.
And there you have it. The 1991 season is over. What a crazy season it was. We saw the loss of Rick Mast and JD McDuffie, the near-loss of Brett Bodine, a wacky race at Levi Strauss Signature Speedway, the return of Texas World Speedway, Richard Petty announcing retirement, and Buick announcing an end to factory support.

And that's a wrap! I'm not sure when 1992 will start, mainly since I haven't even made the schedule yet, but also because my grandpa is in the hospital right now. But keep watching this section of the forum, because 1992 will bring us more racing, more action, the end of Richard Petty's career, and the debut of a certain kid from California in a rainbow car...
