Race 10: Budweiser 200 at Volusia Speedway Park; Barberville, Florida, July 4th, 1997. Pre-Race ReportAfter the ARCA Bondo/Mar-Hyde Series kicked off the 4th of July racing weekend in Kil-Kare Speedway earlier in the day, the NASCAR All Pro Southeast Series takes the primetime spotlight from the half-mile oval known as Volusia on this Friday night as a fireworks display will happen following the 200-lap race. After running the entire race last time out in Myrtle Beach, Rob Snyder puts his #2 Rose's Thunderbird on the pole for tonight's race with a lap time of 19.713 seconds/91.31 mph. But this week eyes are also focusing on Ryan Fisher who returns to the track with his own car for the first time since the GM Goodwrench 200 at Richmond back in March. Fisher came to play this weekend as he's got a brand-new racecar and a new sponsor as this press release from June 30th: Fisher qualified 14th for the race in Volusia, his best qualifying effort of the season. 33 cars qualified for 31 spots on the grid as Ernie Bryant and Scotty Hayes were not able to qualify. This is both Hayes and Bryant's 3rd DNQs of the season, both failing to qualify for Bowman-Gray and SNMP. Race 10: Budweiser 200 at Volusia Speedway Park; Barberville, Florida, July 4th, 1997. BLANCHARD SCHOOLS FIELD, WINS 2nd RACE OF '97By Nick Johnson/NASCAR.com - July 5th, 1997BARBERVILLE, FL - Friday night's Budweiser 200 at Volusia Speedway Park proved to have more fireworks after the race than during it as Trent Blanchard completely annihilated the competition by leading 180 of the event's 200 laps en route to his second win of the season. The caution flag only flew twice over the field; the first time being for the halfway caution and the other on lap 134 when Sammy Moore's car got into Richie Howard and finally got into Jason Sullivan, sending the other two-time winner this season spinning on the frontstraight. Blanchard on tonight compared to recent weeks: "After shooting the team in the foot at Martinsville, I knew I had to work hard to regain what I lost in the championship fight. We didn't have the results we were looking for these past three races so we put our Wilkesboro setup in the car this weekend and it was just bad fast once we tuned it in just right. Hopefully we'll be able to get back into this championship if we keep this up." Before the race we mentioned Ryan Fisher returning to the series tour in his own equipment for the first time since Richmond and the improvements to his car were visible right off the trailer when he posted the third-fastest lap in opening practice. Though he qualified 14th, Fisher was able to keep his car clean and bring it home not only in one piece but also in the 3rd position. Fisher on the weekend as a whole: "Our car was just way too tight in qualifying and I paid the price for it. Luckily the handling got a lot better on the long run and we really reaped the benefits. This weekend makes me feel like we can really contend for wins as the season goes on and that's pretty important considering we've got a sponsorship extension on the line." Fisher's third place finish is officially his first top-5/top-10 finish of the season, though now unofficially he has 3 top-5s and 4 top-10s including his three stints as a relief driver for tonight's polesitter Rob Snyder, who finished 9th after leading just four laps. Roger Fowler continues to hold on to the points lead following his 10th place finish, his 6th top-10 of the season, though now only by two points over rookie sensations Chad Moon and Derek Hawkins (six points), both drivers finishing 5th and 7th respectively. Moon managed to lead a single lap in this race, which is critical when each spot is worth one point. Defending series champion Damian Washington sits fourth in points just eight points back after finishing 6th while Becky Conway sits fifth in points, 21 points back after finishing 4th, her series-leading 7th top-10 finish. No rest for the Southeast series drivers as they travel to the Louisville Speedway in the Bluegrass State for the Meijer 200 on July 11th. Coverage begins at 7:00PM EST on TNN. Contingency AwardsBusch Pole Award: Rob Snyder (19.713 seconds / 91.31 mph) Safety Kleen Front Runner (Most Laps Led): Trent Blanchard (180 of 200 laps) Gatorade Hard Charger (Most Positions Gained): Trent Blanchard (+12, Started 13th, Finished 1st) STP Hot Lap (Best Lap Time): Leroy Gardner (17.078 seconds / 105.399 mph) Raybestos Rookie of the Race: Blaine Freeman (Finished 2nd) Five Star Moment of the Race: Ryan Fisher finishing 3rd in his first race back in his own car. They are indeed a lot of fun, especially with the V6 BGN soundpack from Armory Digital. Race 11: Meijer 200 at Louisville Speedway; Louisville, Kentucky, July 11th, 1997. FOSTER WINS IN A WASH-OUTBy Nick Johnson/NASCAR.com - July 12th, 1997LOUISVILLE, KY - Apparently gaining a sponsor for his hometown race lit a fire in Tim Foster, Jr.'s belly and stormed his way to victory in a rain-shortened event on Friday night, leading all 127 laps run on the Louisville bullring before Nascar officials were forced to call the race in what turned out to be a torrential downpour and a typical southern rainstorm. Needless to say the celebration was indeed an emotional one for Foster as he grew up only a few minutes from the track and became the second home turf winner this season, joining Chad Moon of Lake City, Florida when he won at USA International in Lakeland earlier this year. Foster on winning at home in the rain: "I kept hearing on my radio that the rain was coming and to just keep running my pace keeping everyone behind me and just before it showed up, they said that Nascar would have to call it, so I figured that meant this was gonna be a good shower and indeed it was! I definitely had more incentive to win this race not only because I grew up here but also because Meijer sponsored this race and the race-winning car. I don't know what's gonna happen with sponsorship going forward, but I bet that phone's gonna be ringing off the hook tomorrow morning!" This win catapulted Foster from 13th up to 7th in the points, just 23 behind new points leader Chad Moon, who finished 10th last night. Roger Fowler struggled throughout the night despite starting second on the grid as he wound up 16th a lap down. The caution flag waved three times for ten laps in last night's race; first on lap 54 when Jimbo Bailey was spun by Gary Campbell, secondly on lap 100 for the halfway caution, and lastly on lap 125 for rain. Chad Moon leads the points standings by three over fellow rookie Derek Hawkins, four over Roger Fowler, 15 over defending champion Damian Washington, and 20 over Becky Conway and Rob Snyder who are both tied for fifth in points. Teams will have a chance for a little R&R before making their way out to our lone stop in the midwest to kick off the second half of our season at Heartland Park in Topeka, Kansas for the running of the Diehard Shootout. Coverage starts July 26th at noon eastern time on TNN. Contingency AwardsBusch Pole Award: Tim Foster, Jr. (15.146 seconds / 104.582 mph) Safety Kleen Front Runner (Most Laps Led): Tim Foster, Jr. (127 of 127 laps) Gatorade Hard Charger (Most Positions Gained): Troy Pearson (+17, Started 21st, Finished 4th) STP Hot Lap (Best Lap Time): Robby Anderson (14.945 seconds / 105.989 mph) Raybestos Rookie of the Race: Blaine Freeman (Finished 3rd) Five Star Moment of the Race: Tim Foster, Jr. winning at his home track. Race 12: Diehard Challenge at Heartland Park; Topeka, Kansas, July 26th, 1997
Pre-Race Report
The weather seemed to stick around for a little as the second half of opening practice was washed away with rain and qualifying was rained out, meaning the drivers of the All Pro Southeast Series will line up according to points, giving Chad Moon his first pole of the season. But the weather is set to be sunny and breezy for Saturday's race. This race at Topeka will be 60 laps long with a halfway caution at lap 30. Last week's winner Tim Foster, Jr. wasn't kidding when he said he'd thought the phone would be ringing once he got back to the shop as a sponsorship announcement was made during the off-week.

Race 12: Diehard Challenge at Heartland Park; Topeka, Kansas, July 26th, 1997 MOON SNAKEBIT, FOWLER WINS FIRST OF YEARBy Nick Johnson/NASCAR.com - July 27th, 1997TOPEKA, KS - The Diehard Challenge looked to be all wrapped up for polesitter Chad Moon before coming through the final corners with 13 laps to go the gearbox gave out on the #98 Thunderbird, forcing Moon to drop out of the race. This was Moon's third DNF of the season and it hurt his championship hopes greatly after finishing 32nd, dropping him to 4th in points, 21 back of race winner Roger Fowler. Fowler inherited the lead from Moon and coming to take the white flag, the wily veteran had to hold off a late-race charge from Becky Conway who managed to erase a four second lead in only a couple of laps while Fowler was stuck behind lapped traffic. "That girl's got a lotta spunk running the car hard like she did. Another lap and she definitely could've gotten by me." Fowler said in victory lane as the seven-time champion looks for number eight. He holds an 18-point lead over runner-up finisher Becky Conway and 19th place finisher Derek Hawkins, whose car stalled out as soon as his car came off the jack on the halfway caution pitstop, 21 points ahead of Chad Moon, and 22 points ahead of Tim Foster, Jr., who backed up his Louisville win with a third place finish. "I was trying to grab second gear coming back towards the frontstraight and the car just wouldn't get in gear at all so I was forced to nurse the car back into the pit and when they looked under the car, the gearbox was absolutely shot. We'd been running the same one all season long, trying to mend it between races, but I guess it was just worn down after the good first half of the season we had and after a brutal road course race. We'll just have to change it before we head to Rougemont." Moon was quoted saying after a disappointing end to an otherwise dominating race. The series has eight days to prepare for another trip to the bullrings of the southeast as Speedvision will bring the Coca-Cola 300 from Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, North Carolina on August 3rd at 1:00pm eastern. With four spots on the grid up for grabs, a special last chance qualifier will take place to fill out the 23-car field as the fastest go-or-go-homer in qualifying will transfer into the race, leaving the remaining 13 cars to duke it out. Contingency AwardsBusch Pole Award: Chad Moon (N/A) Safety Kleen Front Runner (Most Laps Led): Chad Moon (48 of 60 laps) Gatorade Hard Charger (Most Positions Gained): Ryan Fisher (+17, Started 30th, Finished 13th) STP Hot Lap (Best Lap Time): Jimbo Bailey (1:24.628 / 88.056 mph) Raybestos Rookie of the Race: Richie Howard (Finished 8th) Five Star Moment of the Race: Roger Fowler holding off Becky Conway amidst heavy lapped traffic. Race 13: Coca-Cola 200 at Orange County Speedway; Rougemont, North Carolina, August 3rd, 1997 Pre-Race ReportThis weekend's NASCAR All-Pro Southeast Series race at Orange County Speedway was initially meant to be 300 laps but in the midst of a heatwave across the Rougemont area with heat indexes reaching 105 degrees, the race has been shortened to 200 laps in the blistering August sun. Sammy Moore qualified on the pole with a laptime of 13.195 seconds and Ryan Fisher advanced into the main event by qualifying the fastest of the 14 go-or-go-homers at a time of 13.206 which otherwise would've put him third on the grid. Fisher will start 20th as the remaining 13 cars would go for 40 laps in the last chance qualifier to round out the field. Blake Roosevelt went 2-for-2 in last chance qualifying races as he edged out Caleb McDonald on the final lap, having also won the LCQ at Bowman-Gray. Roosevelt and McDonald will be joined by Adam Coleman who finished third. The caution waved once in the LCQ on lap 30 when John Kendrick slid up the track and caused Vince Stevens to get into him in turn two. The heartbreaker of the race definitely went to Mike Palmer in car #5 as he tried making his sixth start of the season and ended up getting passed by Adam Coleman and Keith Norton in turn three on the last lap, last having raced at SNMP in June. Starting Lineup Inside | Outside | 6 - Sammy Moore | 55 - Robby Anderson | 75 - Richie Howard (R) | 2 - Rob Snyder | 10 - Trent Blanchard | 17 - Neil Charles | 1 - Damian Washington | 22 - Gary Campbell | 98 - Chad Moon (R) | 82 - Jason Sullivan | 47 - Derek Hawkins (R) | 19 - Blaine Freeman (R) | 4 - Tim Foster, Jr. | 95 - Becky Conway | 28 - Leroy Gardner | 99 - Roger Fowler | 05 - Troy Pearson | 60 - Kurt Collins | 32 - Jimbo Bailey | 30 - Ryan Fisher | 37 - Blake Roosevelt | 93 - Caleb McDonald | 8 - Adam Coleman |

Race 13: Coca-Cola 200 at Orange County Speedway; Rougemont, North Carolina, August 3rd, 1997 ANDERSON OUTLASTS FISHER, WINS ROUGEMONTBy Nick Johnson/NASCAR.com - August 4th, 1997ROUGEMONT, NC - The action on the track was as hot as the air in Sunday's Coca-Cola 200 at Orange County Speedway as Robby Anderson edged out Ryan Fisher to claim his first win of the season. Despite finishing a career-best second, Fisher was able to hold his head high after qualifying his way into the race, lead a race-high 76 laps, and gain more positions than anyone in the field. Because of the intense heat, several drivers required an IV before and after the race. Neil Charles and Kurt Collins, who finished 6th and 8th respectively, both went to a nearby medical facility for additional fluids. Anderson on battling Fisher: "That guy's a hell of a racer. I don't doubt that he's gonna end up in victory lane before this year's over with." The caution waved a whopping 12 times for 55 laps. Turns one and two proved to be slick, treacherous, and calamity corner given how hot the track was. Caution 1 - Lap 3: Derek Hawkins slides up into Gary Campbell, both cars spin in turns one and two. Caution 2 - Lap 21: Kurt Collins slides up into Leroy Gardner and collects Tim Foster, Jr., the 28 and 60 spin in turn two. Caution 3 - Lap 35: While battling for the lead, Trent Blanchard spins Sammy Moore in turn two. Caution 4 - Lap 43: Roger Fowler slides up into Jimbo Bailey, both cars spin in turn two. Caution 5 - Lap 52: Gary Campbell spins Damian Washington in turn four. Caution 6 - Lap 100: Halfway caution. Caution 7 - Lap 119: Tim Foster, Jr. spins Gary Campbell in turn two. Caution 8 - Lap 143: Damian Washington slides up in front of Richie Howard, gets spin in turn four. Caution 9 - Lap 151: Damian Washington slides up into Gary Campbell, spins again in turn four. Caleb McDonald spins on his own trying to avoid Washington. Caution 10 - Lap 160: Rob Snyder comes down on Becky Conway, Conway spins in turn one and collects Damian Washington. Caution 11 - Lap 171: Sammy Moore slides up into Richie Howard, both cars spin in turn four. Caution 12 - Lap 180: Gary Campbell bumps and spins Kurt Collins, both cars wreck in turn four. Washington on his less than optimal day after finishing 22nd: "Our car was looser than a greased up pig, never drove anything like this in my life. The weather being hot as a bastard contributing to the lack of grip on the track and having everyone jockeying for position like it was the last lap certainly didn't help... I'm glad to get out of here." After a 12th place finish, Roger Fowler leaves with a 16-point advantage over Derek Hawkins who finished 10th. 4th-place finisher Trent Blanchard is third in points only 22 back with 13th-place finisher Tim Foster, Jr. being fourth, 23 points back, and 19th-place finisher Becky Conway being fifth in points, only 25 back. The drivers get a couple weeks' rest before battling it out at the high banks of Bristol Motor Speedway for the Dollar General 200 on August 21st. ESPN2 will bring the coverage starting at 6:30pm eastern time.
