Race #3 - Kraco Twin 125 #1
The CART Series made their 3rd stop of 1981 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, in Hampton, Georgia, for the Kraco Twin 125 #1.
Kevin Cogan led a field of twenty three drivers to the green flag as for the first time in two years drivers raced at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. Cogan's lead would last only three laps before Pancho Carter took the lead as he would have a race long battle with Gordon Johncock swapped the lead eight times during the first forty six laps as a caution free race allowed for drivers to pit one time, during the pit stop, Johncock's team put on left side tires and a half tank of fuel, getting Johncock a nearly twenty second lead.
Johnny Rutherford had gotten around Carter for second and cut the lead down to ten seconds and then five but he ran out of time as Johncock picked up his first win in over two years.
Other Noticeables: Gordon Johncock scored his 1st win of the year, Johncock led 5 times for 62 laps, including the final 38 laps, It was the 2nd win of his career in the CART Series and his first since 1979 at Trenton; 23 races ago, Tom Sneva, who wasn't in this event, kept his points lead, leading Mario Andretti and Al Unser by 2 points

Race #4 - Kraco Twin 125 #2
The CART Series made their 4th stop of 1981 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, in Hampton, Georgia, for the Kraco Twin 125 #2.
Gordon Johncock led a field of twenty two drivers to the green flag as drivers raced for the second time in a day at Atlanta. Johncock led the field since he had won the first event, but it was Pancho Carter who would lead the first three laps as Carter would lose the lead back to Johncock before Mario Andretti took over the top spot. Andretti dominated the early half, losing the lead only during pit stops as Carter and Andretti would swap the lead six times in the final forty laps, a battle Carter won as he took the lead coming to the white flag and would hold off Andretti for his first career CART Series win.
Other Noticeables: Pancho Carter scored his 1st win of the year, Carter led 5 times for 10 laps, including the final 2 laps, It was the 1st win of his career in the CART Series in his 29th start, Mario Andretti, who finished 2nd, is the new points leader, leading Gordon Johncock by 5 points

Race #5 - Norton Michigan 500
The CART Series made their 5th stop of 1981 at the Michigan International Speedway, in Brooklyn, Michigan, for the Norton Michigan 500.
Pancho Carter led the field to the Green as the fans in attendance were one of the best races in the history of the CART Series at Michigan as Carter would swap the lead with Rick Mears for the first thirty laps as a hot and slick track led to drivers having problems getting onto pit road, slamming into the wall and bringing out four of the five cautions. Carter would lead for almost half of the event while Tony Bettenhausen Jr. would lead a good part too while during the last twenty five laps, the lead would swap hands six times with 1979 CART Series Champion Rick Mears passing Carter in Turn 2 on the last lap and was able to defend his lead for the remaining half lap and scored his first win of 1981.
Other Noticeables: Rick Mears scored his 1st win of the year, Mears led 5 times for 11 laps, including the final lap, It was the 7th win of his career in the CART Series and his first since 1980 at Milwaukee Mile; 9 races ago, Harry MacDonald, who finished 34th, made his CART Series debut, Rick Mears, who finished 1st, became the new points leader, leading Pancho Carter by 5 points
