Race #10The NASCAR Grand National Series made their 10th stop of 1951 at the Columbus Speedway, in Columbus, Georgia. Herb Thomas led the field to the green flag as for the first time in series history drivers raced at the half mile track in Columbus, Georgia, as Thomas would keep command of the lead for the first quarter of the race before Gober Sosebee and Tim Flock would catch up to Thomas and the three drivers would swap the lead eight times during the first half of the race, with Sosebee having the better car it seemed on long runs, and when Flock was spun out he would lose a lap and fall from contention, while that left Sosbee and Thomas up front and after a round of pit stops, Sosebee would assume the lead with 98 laps to go and would pull away over the final half of the race, pulling more then three seconds away from Lee Petty to score the first win of his career.
