2007 Martinsville 500

Late News: EagleOne Racing announces it will race at Talladega in the next few weeks. Driver is not confirmed. Martinsville will take place under the lights for the first time ever. Brian Silvia fails to make the field for the first time in history, and his streak of 260 consecutive races run will be snapped.

Favorites: Landon Kaiser set the fastest speed in practice and qualifying. He'll be a fast driver to bet on. Kyle Rudd and Chris Burton both have two wins here and are starting towards the front of the pack. Peter Hale also has a win here and will be starting up front. Dark horse pick is Grant Dolson, who once again finds himself near the front at a short track. He'll be looking for another standout run in an already brilliant year.

Polesitter: Landon Kaiser - Team: TriStar-Evernham Motorsports

Lap 1: Landon Kaiser takes the green flag, but it'll be Grant Dolson in the #47 leading the field out of turn 2 with a good run on the high side.

Lap 4: Lead change - Kaiser repasses Dolson for the race lead.

Lap 13: Andy Houston passes Peter Hale for 4th. Meanwhile, Landon Kaiser has caught the tail end of the pack.

Lap 23: 30 drivers left on the lead lap as the #9 slices past cars.

Lap 33: Zoe Sharp (#43) is having her best run of the year, currently in 10th place. The #43 has been a little slower compared to last season so a good run here will definitely help in the points.

Lap 36: 25 drivers left on the lead lap, but there are some fast cars ahead of Kaiser. Dale Stremme Jr, Alice Peters, Kaitlyn Suater, and Luis Suarez are all fighting to stay on the lead lap.

Lap 43: Kaiser struggling to pass anyone, only now lapping Alice Peters who is having a third poor showing in a row in 25th.

Lap 44: Chris England (#11) has slowly risen to 3rd on track, behind Kaiser and Dolson.

Lap 55: Kaiser trims down the number of lead lap cars to 20.

Lap 61: Caution flag. Kaiser's teammate, James Davidson in the #10 blows an engine. The #10 can not catch a break this year.

Lap 67: Green flag back out. 18 drivers on the lead lap - Kaiser, Dolson, and England are the top 3.

Lap 79: Kaiser catching backmarkers already.

Lap 88: Caution! Grant Dolson gets into Rachel Bowyer in the #4 and Chris England makes contact with the #23 of Denny Jennings. Ironically, the two drivers at fault (Dolson and England) escape with little damage, while the two others are forced to pit for minor repairs.

Lap 93: Kaiser and Dolson have only one win between them - Kaiser's win at Indy two years ago in '05. Both finished outside the top 20 in points last season in 2006. However, they are certainly putting on a show here at Martinsville.

Lap 96: Green flag. Kaiser leads. Andy Houston in 5th has a loose wheel and comes in. A disappointing end to a good run.

Lap 100: Kaiser will dominate here at Martinsville, 96 laps led and his 2nd career win, and first for newly merged team, TriStar-Evernham. Dolson and England finish second and third, Hannah Tanner and Peter Hale round out the top 5.

Points Standings
After Race 9: Martinsville

Standings:

The Good: Landon Kaiser's win moves him from 14th to 12th in points. The #9 team continues it's march up the standings. Grant Dolson and JTG jump back into the Chase with a 2nd place run here. The impressive year for the #47 team continues. Steve Perry may only have 1 top 10 - 4th at Daytona, but he also has quite a few 11th-13th place runs. An 11th at Martinsville marks his 4th one thus far, and moves him up to 15th in points.

The Mediocre: Andy Houston ran in the top 5 all day, but a loose tire is something this team did not need, as they fall a spot back to 14th in points. Kevin Grant has quietly fallen back to 20th in points. The #27 has been mired in the mid-pack all season, and a 20th today only highlights that.

The Bad: Alice Peters went from 5th to 18th in points in just 3 races. The season has turned into a disaster for the #31, and they'll need to start picking up consistent top 10's to get back into Chase contention. Luis Suarez finished 32nd after a speeding penalty. The #19 is the weakest JGR car at the moment in points and currently sits 13th, outside the Chase. James Davidson seems to be perpetually on the Bad side of the list. This week, the #10 team was hit with a blown engine, and was the only DNF here. The team is 32nd in points after a disaster of a campaign thus far.

2007 Anheuser-Busch 400

Late News: Gateway announces new deal with NASCAR and will have 2 race dates for the following 2 seasons (including this year, 2007-2009). Hannah Tanner and Hendrick announce that Spotify will come on for a few select races as a primary sponsor. Mario Gibson attempted to qualify the #56 but fails to make the field.

Favorites: Chris England has the most wins at Gateway with 2. He'll be a contender. So will polesitter, Kyle Rudd, who also has a win at the track. Sarah Cooper could be in for a good result here, the #7 team and TriStar-Evernham have really been on the up the last few weeks, so there's a chance for her to score her first win of the year. Dark horse pick is Nick Rodriguez. After announcing he wouldn't be racing last year, he came back and has been relatively mediocre, but a 2nd place start here could really go a long way to getting back on track.

Lap 1: Green flag. Kyle Rudd takes the green and we're racing at Gateway.

Lap 2: Caution for a multiple car incident. Megan Murphy got turned and Frankie Parkins (#74), Denny Jennings and Ty Majeski (#23 and #83), Rachel Bowyer (#4), and Josh Berry (#83) all get caught up in it. All drivers were running outside the top 30 prior to this.

Lap 3: Even more drama racing back to the line. Points leader, Alex Parker tangles with Steve Perry. The #5 pits and will start tail end of the field on the restart.

Lap 6: Green and Yellow flag immediately. Andy Houston blows an engine coming to the green and stops on the front stretch.

Lap 12: Green flag, Kyle Rudd runs away from Nick Rodriguez and Katie Durhamm, a pair of drivers who haven't even scored a top 10 this year thus far.

Lap 18: Top 2 are pulling away from new third place driver Chris England.

Lap 23: Landon Kaiser is flying up the field, moving up 10 spots since the start of the race to 10th. Chris England has also passed Nick Rodriguez for 2nd.

Lap 33: Chris England is now on Kyle Rudd for the race lead. Meanwhile, Nick Rodriguez is fending off Jeb Warson and Nate Beasley for 3rd.

Lap 34: England passes Kyle Rudd for the lead. Landon Kaiser has passed Peter Hale and Hannah Tanner for 7th.

Lap 39: Nate Beasley passes Jeb Warson and Nick Rodriguez for the 3rd position.

Lap 40: Checkered flag in the air for Chris England, who will win his 3rd race of 2007, and his 3rd at Gateway. Kyle Rudd finishes 2nd, Beasley holds off Rodriguez and Jeb Warson for 3rd-5th. Rodriguez and Katie Durhamm hold on for their first top 10's of the season.

After Race 10: Gateway

Standings

Good News: Now have this little neat graphic to show where all the drivers finished in each race. Enjoy!

Also, Kyle Rudd is doing pretty good now. A slow start earlier, but he is back into 6th in points. Chris England also jumps from 5th to 3rd with a 3rd win of 2007. Landon Kaiser continues to climb up the standings, scoring his 5th consecutive top 10, the longest streak of top 10's he has ever had. Speaking of long top 10 streaks, Peter Hale's 8th place finish makes this his 6th consecutive top 10.

Interesting Stories to follow: Nick Rodriguez's 4th is Allison Coyne Racing's first top 10 and top 5. The #16 has been blown out of the water by the #60 of Coyne, so either Coyne is a once in a generation talent, or Nick Rodriguez is having the worst luck possible. I wager it's probably the latter. The ROTY battle hasn't been mentioned in the last few weeks, but Anna Kelley is slowly gaining her footing, with 3 top 20's in the last 4 weeks, while Atkins has slacked off a little since his back-to-back top 5's.

Bad News: For the second week in a row, Andy Houston has a problem while running near the front. This time, it was terminal, and the #2 lost 5 spots in the standings, as well as their first official DNF. Kaitlyn Sauter also scored a DNF here, her 3rd of the year which is frustrating for a team that seems to have top 20 speed this year.

Late News: There is a ton of late news. TriStar-Evernham will run a 5th car - #91 with Tony Irwin Jr. Mark Donaque will take over the #36 here. Caitlyn Smith was supposed to race in the #81, but was loaned out to EagleOne Racing to drive the #77. Grand National driver Logan Wintergreen will make his debut here in the #81 JGR car. Quite a few surprising drivers DNQ.

Favorites: Chad Little Inc. has always been good on the plate tracks. Chad Little Jr. has 5 wins at 'Dega, while teammate Perry won this race last year. Both finished top 5 at Daytona earlier. Dale Stremme Jr. and Alex Parker are both good restrictor plate racers. Dark horse pick - Ross Evertson. Front Row Racing has been solid at the plate tracks, the #34 could be a contender here today.

Lap 2: Kyle Rudd passes the #25 for the lead.

Lap 4: Clint Johnson has already dropped to 26th. The field is getting shuffled in the middle with three and four wide action.

Lap 5: Chad Little Jr. takes the lead.

Lap 9: Most of the first 14 cars are single file with two trapped on the outside lane. Also, Marco Montoya takes the lead.

Lap 11: Chad Little Jr. to the front of the pack.

Lap 13: Top 39 in the lead draft. 3 and 4 wide have petered out into the mostly two wide.

Lap 16: Kevin Grant (#27) takes the lead.

Lap 17: Rookie Carson Atkins takes it three wide at the stripe to become the next leader.

Lap 20: Marco Montoya (#42) to the point of the race.

Lap 22: Two individual crashes taking place! It's the big one - Zoe Sharp get spun into the turn 3 wall, and Nicole Sadler, James Davidson, Kyle Rudd, Marco Montoya, Megan Murphy, Kaitlyn Sauter, Alice Peters, and Sarah Cooper all get damage. But there's another crash ahead of this one!

Crash Cont.: And Landon Kaiser spins Nick Rodriguez trying to avoid it - another half-dozen cars are swept up in this one - Luis Suarez, Hannah Tanner, Kaiser, and Ross Evertson are notable drivers involved.

Lap 27: Atkins leads the race off pit road and gets the green flag.

Lap 28: Peter Hale takes the top spot.

Lap 30: Top 12 have broken away, the next dozen are in a pack chasing them down. 8 drivers are out of the race.

Lap 35: The main pack in a picture. They are coming up on two lapped cars. Hale is stuck behind them - Steve Perry takes the lead.

Lap 36: Chad Little Jr. and Steve Perry are 1-2 with 3 laps to go.

Lap 37: Perry passes Chad Little and is out in front to try and win.

Lap 37: A lapped car slows Perry - Tony Irwin Jr. in his first career race is now in front as they come to the white flag! What an upset this would be.

Lap 38: Out of turn 4, Jeb Warson pulls out from behind Tony Irwin Jr. for the lead - who gets to the line first?

Lap 38: Coming to the line - it's a photo finish... and it's Warson who edges out Irwin Jr. by 0.027 seconds for his first win of the year. What an electric pass that the #22 made coming out of 4! Irwin Jr., Perry, Clint Johnson, and Nate Beasley are your top 5.

After Race 11: Talladega

Standings

The Good: Peter Hale now has 7 consecutive top 10's and takes over the point lead from Alex Parker. Clint Johnson's 4th place run moves him into 5th place in points. Jeb Warson jumps from 16th to 13th with his win and is now in the second wild card spot for the Chase.

Interesting Developments/Stories: Nate Beasley has strung back-to-back top 5's. Is the #84 still a fringe Chase team? Katie Durhamm seemed to be off form after her injury last season, but she finally seems to be breaking out, with back-to-back top 10's. Can Grant Dolson hold on as the summer starts up? The #47 team has been great all year, but a few bad races will take them out quickly.

The Bad: James Davidson records DNF #5 in 11 races. What an abysmal start to the year. Marco Montoya scores his second DNF here and drops back to 24th in points. Megan Murphy's season has also been pretty bad - 4 DNF's and a 35th place points run is horrible for a Ganassi driver. No one remembers this, but Ganassi at one point had 3 drivers in the top 6 in points back in 2000. Now, they have only one inside the top 20, and 35th in points would be the worst full time campaign by a Ganassi driver.

Lap 13: England leads, Dale Stremme Jr. currently holding off Peter Hale, Jeb Warson, and Alex Parker for 2nd. Top 7 are slowly breaking away.

Lap 17: Hale passes Stremme Jr.

Lap 26: Scheduled caution flag is out. The field bunches up for a ten lap shootout.

Lap 30: England takes off, leading the field to the green flag.

Lap 33: Peter Hale is on the back bumper of Chris England.

Lap 36: Hale shoving England down the straights. The two Joe Gibbs cars are pulling away from the two Penske cars behind them.

Lap 40: Hale can't pass England. Chris England is going to hold off him to take the race win in a second close finish in a row (0.096 seconds). Dale Stremme Jr, Jeb Warson, and Alex Parker are the top 5.

Personal Note: This is one of the best/craziest races I've ever had the pleasure of simulating. If I ever post these on YouTube, this will probably be one of the first ones I post.

Late News: The #77 EagleOne entry announces a part time schedule with Caitlyn Smith as the driver. This will be her third part time season in a row, she ran 11 times in 2005 for various teams and 16 races in 2006 for Joe Gibbs. Travis Ruttman is in the #56 but fails to qualify. SGR Racing to merge with Green Racing to form a 2 car team (#57, Part-Time, #89, Full-Time).

Favorites: Kyle Rudd has always been good here, and will be a contender most likely. Alex Parker also has a win here and will be fast. Dale Stremme Jr. starts on pole and is still looking for his first win of the year. Jeb Warson also looking for back-to-back wins. Dark horse pick is Luis Suarez. Suarez is 16th in points, and desperately will be looking for a good showing here today. He starts 4th.

Polesitter: Dale Stremme Jr. - Team: Team Penske

Lap 1: Dale Stremme Jr. leads them to the line, but doesn't get a great start - Alex Parker in the #5 takes the early lead.

Lap 10: Kyle Rudd, who started 16th is up to 5th in just 10 laps.

Lap 16: Caution. Chris Burton gets tipped into the #47 of Grant Dolson by Nick Rodriguez in the #16. All three drivers suffer damage, but no retirements.

Lap 21: Green. Luis Suarez in the #19 stays out and assumes the lead ahead of Parker, Jeb Warson (#22), Nate Beasley (#84), and Landon Kaiser (#9).

Lap 22: Parker storms around Suarez for the lead.

Lap 24: Suarez already looking slow, still in 2nd but losing half a second to Parker and slowing up the field.

Lap 31: Warson in 2nd and closing on Parker. Suarez down to 8th. The Joe Gibbs drivers of Chris England and Peter Hale (11 and 20 respectively) are charging through the field in 6th and 7th now.

Lap 35: Jeb Warson takes over the lead from Parker.

Lap 45: Leaders hit lapped traffic. Kyle Rudd (#48) passes teammate Alex Parker for 2nd. Chris England is up to 4th now.

Lap 49: England passes Alex Parker for 3rd. Meanwhile, Rookies Anna Kelley (#6) and Carson Atkins (#98) have been fighting for 9th for now 15 laps. It's an extremely intense battle, and an amazing show from both drivers.

Lap 54: Kyle Rudd passes Jeb Warson in lapped traffic for the lead. Chris England moves to 2nd. Meanwhile Nate Beasley in the #84 has moved into the top 5. Luis Suarez comes in for his first stop (he didn't stop on the caution).

Lap 64: Dale Stremme Jr., the polesitter has struggled, currently down in 21st.

Lap 68: Green flag pitstops underway.

Lap 70: Disaster for Kyle Rudd - the #48 team spent nearly twenty extra second in the pits! They drop to 28th position. Chris England takes the lead of the race.

Lap 74: Spinner in turn 1 - it's Steve Perry in the #1. Dale Stremme Jr. in the #12 turned him into the wall. No major damage for either car.

Lap 79: Green flag - England leads from Warson.

Lap 82: Caution - Clint Johnson spins off the bumper of Dale Stremme Jr.

Lap 83: More drama - the man running second in points, Alex Parker, blows an Engine! Make that the third race in a row of a finish of 31st or worst.

Lap 87: Green Flag.

Lap 88: This race is descending into chaos. Andy Houston (#2) gets hit and spins into Landon Kaiser (#9). Caitlyn Smith (#77), and Nicole Sadler (#37) also have minimal damage.

Lap 93: Green flag. Let's see if we can make it to the end. Chris England in the #11 is in front, trying for win #4 on the year.

Lap 94: Anna Kelley dives into 5th. Alice Peters is 6th, and Chad Little Jr. has come from 25th to 8th in the last 25 laps.

Lap 94: And a MASSIVE wreck in turn #3! Rookie Anna Kelley gets spun, then t-boned and vaulted up into the air in a horrifying crash. A dozen more drivers are collected in this one - it's the big one at Charlotte!

Red flag. Multiple drivers involved in this huge wreck - what a shakeup this race will cause in the points standings.

Red flag: Anna Kelley taken out of her car on a stretcher. She seems to be alert and responsive.

Lap 94: Red flag is removed - Chris England paces the field.

Lap 99: Green flag - a two lap dash to the finish line - who will prevail?

Lap 100: Chris England comes out of turn 4 to win a wild race at Charlotte! Jeb Warson comes up short in second - Peter Hale (#20), Alice Peters (#31), and Nate Beasley (#84) are the top 5.

Points Standings
After Race 12: Charlotte

The Good:
- Points leader Peter Hale scores his 8th consecutive top 10.
- Chris England's 4th win of the year vaults him to 2nd in points.
- Jeb Warson and Nate Beasley are coming on strong - both have 3 top 5's in the last 3 races.
- After a tumble through the standings, Alice Peters is slowly working her way back into Chase contention with a 4th at Charlotte.
- FINALLY, James Davidson in the #10 has a good run with no incidents, resulting in an 8th place finish. Could this be the start of a resurgence through the standings?
- Lindsay Simmons scores back-to-back top 20 finishes for Paroday Racing. Granted, both races were full of attrition, but still an impressive feat for the typical back-marker team.

Interesting Stories:
- Will Luis Suarez be able to mount a comeback into the Chase? The #19 team has made the Chase every year with Suarez behind the wheel thus far.
- Allison Coyne - a rookie has been a dark horse in the ROTY battle. Carson Atkins and Anna Kelley have had great runs, but Allison Coyne hasn't been too far off, especially for an owner/driver with a 'new' team.
- Also, will Anna Kelley be sidelined for the foreseeable future? The #6 had a vicious impact, but Kelley seemed to be mostly ok - even giving a thumbs up at one point.

The Bad:
- Landon Kaiser certainly seems to be hot and cold this season - in the last 9 starts, he has put together 5 top 9's and 4 finishes of 21st or worse. He finished 30th here.
- Chris Burton in the #78 finds himself on the edge of the Chase bubble in 10th - having had poor showings at Talladega and Charlotte.
- Andy Houston has scored 2 DNF's in the last 3 races and has dropped to 21st in points. Yikes.
- Marco Montoya has scored back-to-back DNFs and drops to 26th in points.
- Kaitlyn Sauter and the Wood Brothers record their 4th DNF on the calender. If only the team could finish races, they'd be perhaps in the top 20...

2007 MBNA Platinum 400

Late News: Hannah Tanner signs a 2 year deal with Hendrick Motorsports. She will be contracted with the team until the end of 2009. Nate Beasley wasn't looking likely to come back to Hendrick in 2008, but 3 top 5's in a row have really put this #84 team and Beasley into potential contract talks. Zander Nunez takes over the #56 here but DNQ's. Donny Lia, the 2003 ROTY runner up, returns in a one-off to drive the the #74 car for Frankie Parkins. Anna Kelley is cleared to race here at Dover after a brutal crash last weekend at Charlotte.

Favorites: Kyle Rudd has 3 wins at Dover and starts up front - he will be a strong favorite to win. Polesitter, Dale Stremme Jr. has yet to win here, but has had some good runs at Dover. Maybe today is the day he breaks out. Nate Beasley and Peter Hale have been on hot streaks recently and have both qualified well. Dark horse pick is Carson Atkins. Clint Johnson has a win here and was 3rd quickest in practice. Should some of the bigger drivers falter, he will be there to pick up the pieces.

Lap 15: LEAD CHANGE: Rudd passes Dale Stremme for the lead.

Lap 19: After starting 3rd, Sarah Cooper in the #7 has dropped to 13th.

Lap 25: Leaders approaching lapped traffic.

Lap 27: Nate Beasley uses the lapped car as a pick to get around Dale Stremme Jr. for 2nd. Peter Hale in the #20 has jumped from 10th to 4th.

Lap 28: One driver slow on the apron - it's Kaitlyn Sauter with an engine failure. The #21 team must be shaking their heads at all the bad luck they have experienced.

Lap 40: Chad Little Jr. has jumped from 20th to 9th in the last 40 laps.

Lap 55: Only 24 drivers left on the lead lap.

Lap 64: Chad Little Jr. to 7th, passing Hannah Tanner.

Lap 66: Fuel Milage Concerns? Leader Kyle Rudd has stated he's about 4 laps short on fuel. Beasley is ~3 laps. Most of the top 15 is all at least 2 laps short on fuel. HOWEVER, there are reports of some drivers who could potentially stretch the fuel out in the mid-pack area. Provided that this race goes caution free, we could see drivers stretch their fuel runs...

Lap 69: Beasley is on the back bumper of Rudd! Beasley just needs to pass his teammate for his first career win.

Lap 74: Pitstops may start to occur with only 7 to go. Rudd in 1st will definetly need to pit - as will Beasley, Stremme Jr, Hale and the rest of the top 10-12 - all of whom are short on fuel.

Lap 75: Here we go! The leader, Kyle Rudd will be the first to pit. Luis Suarez and Carson Atkins - both inside the top 10 also pit.

Lap 76: Beasley, Little Jr., Landon Amick, Clint Johnson, Jeb Warson, Alex Parker, Chris England, Grant Dolson among a multitude of cars all come in for stops.

Lap 78: New leader, Peter Hale comes in. Hannah Tanner in 2nd peels off as well.

Lap 80: New leader: James Davidson in the #10 car, trying to stretch the fuel! He was 23rd before pit stops. Katie Durhamm for Ganassi is in 2nd - Zoe Sharp is 3rd for Petty Enterprises. Will the fuel hold?

Lap 80: Out of turn #4, the fuel holds up - Davidson is going to score a remarkable maiden win in a fuel mileage gamble here at Dover! Katie Durhamm and Zoe Sharp roll the dice and finish 2nd and 3rd - Kyle Rudd finishes a disappointing 4th, while Beasley scores his 4th top 5 in a row. Shout out to Josh Berry in the #87 for Stienhausser Racing - that team scores it's best ever finish (6th) due to fuel strategy.
