As soon as the trucks rolled off of pit road, the #5 truck of Lance Hooper pulled onto the apron as his truck would stall. His truck would not fire up as there was some kind of engine problem. Hooper would unfortunately be done for the day. A terrible start to the season for Rick Ware's #5 truck. Eventually Jason Small and Jon Wood would lead the field to the green flag for the first truck series race of the season.

On lap 5, the first caution of the race would come out for a multiple truck pile-up. The accident was caused by a four wide situation as pole sitter Jason Small would try to squeeze in the middle of Mike Bliss and Brian Rose. The three trucks would go up the track and collect nearly half of the back portion of the field. Surprisingly, The only trucks that would retire from the race would be pole sitter Jason Small, Brendan Gaughan, and Carlos Contreras.

The first lap under caution saw the whole field come down pit road for service. Steve Portenga would win the race off of pit road and lead to the field to the restart on lap 9. Mike Bliss and Phil Bonifield are the only trucks that would start on the inside line, both being a lap down.

A scary accident would take place on lap 11 of the race. Another four wide situation would occur between Musgrave, McGlynn, Neuenberger, and Inglebright as they got caught behind the slow truck of Bonifield. Donnie Neuenberger's #81 truck would get turned sideways and bulldozed up on the wall and into the catchfence! As the #81 got on the wall, the #16 of Mike Bliss would climb OVER the top of the #00 of Ryan McGlynn and would push Neuenberger's truck into the fence further, causing both the #81 and #16 to ricochet violently off of the fence. The impact was so incredible that Ryan McGlynn would end up flipping over from the force of the two trucks hitting the fence. McGlynn would land back on his wheels after taking a wild ride. The slow trucks of Brian Rose, Trent Owens, and Jon Wood would pile into the crash hard. The red flag was immediately displayed with the rest of the field being stopped on the backstretch so the clean up could begin. Donnie Neuenberger was assisted out of his wrecked #81 truck with some injuries. Mike Bliss and Ryan McGlynn both climbed from the wreckage ok, but definitely shaken up. The other drivers involved emerged ok as well. The red flag lasted for a long time as the catchfence was ripped to pieces after both trucks hit the fence. A very scary crash that has be deemed worse than Geoffrey Bodine's crash back in 2000.

After the red flag was lifted, the caution waved once again and the field would come back down pit road and Bobby Dotter would win the race off of pit road. Dotter would lead the field to the restart.

The field was able to have some clean racing all the way until lap 24. The pack of trucks caught up to the slow truck of Larry Gunselman. Gunselman would then cause the first "what was he thinking?" move of the year by trying to block the #37 of Matt Mullins. Mullins would end up turning the #63 in front of the pack. The #99 of Tim Fedewa and the #2 of Jason Leffler would get some damage. Gunselman would retire from the race with too much damage to continue and would be called to the big red truck after the race with his spotter.

The next caution would come out on lap 32 for another pile-up. The #51 truck of Dokken got underneath the #8 of Bill Lester and turns him around in front of some others. Mike Wallace in the #52 would avoid the crash.

No one would come down pit road as they all would try to run to the end. With that, Bobby Dotter would lead the field to the restart for the final time on lap 36.
