Glen Wood won the pole with a time of 19.743 seconds, beating Curtis Turner by 0.129 seconds.

The NASCAR Convertible Series made their 29th stop of 1956 at the Ft. Wayne Speedway, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
Glen Wood led a field of twenty drivers to the green but it would be Curtis Turner who would get a great jump on the outside and would quickly take the lead in Turn 1. Picking where he left off the past two races, Turner once again dominated the race, losing the lead only once when he lost a lap for pitting due to a flat tire, but was able to gain the lap and the lead back in less then ten laps due to a caution and from that point on Turner was unchallenged, and would easily go on and scored his third win in a row, and his eighth win of the season.
Other Noticeables: Curis Turner scored his 8th win of the year and third in a row, Turner led 2 times for 148 laps, including the final 102 laps, It was the 8th win of his career in the NASCAR Convertible Series and his first since Lincoln; 1 race ago, Spike Sheldon(13th) and Bill Poor(15th) made their NASCAR Convertible Series debuts, Don Oldenberg, who finished 10th, kept his points lead, leading Bob Welborn by 60 points

The NASCAR Convertible Series made their 31st stop of 1956 at the Columbia Speedway, in Columbia, South Carolina.
Curtis Turner led a field of twenty five drivers to the green as long many other races of the season, Turner quickly pulled away and would lead the first fourteen laps before making an unscheduled pit stop for a flat tire during the second caution handing the lead over to Gwyn Staley. Staley's lead would only last twenty laps before Turner would work his way through lap traffic and reclaimed the lead. Once in the lead, Turner used the remaining four cautions and lap traffic to extend his lead as he would easily go on to score his record breaking fifth win in a row as well as his tenth win of the season.
Other Noticeables: Curis Turner scored his 10th win of the year and fifth in a row, Turner led 2 time for 180 laps, including the final 166 laps, It was the 10th win of his career in the NASCAR Convertible Series and his first since Bowman Gray; 1 race ago, George Alsobrook, who finished 9th, made his NASCAR Convertible Series debut, Don Oldenberg, who finished 4th, kept his points lead, leading Bob Welborn by 40 points
