Race #10 - Ditzler 150
The CART Series made their 10th stop of 1979 at the Trenton Speedway, in Trenton, New Jersey, for the Ditzler 150.
Mike Mosley led the field to the Green but it would be Bobby Unser who would lead the first lap as a pretty decent crowd was in attendance to witness the third ever event to be held at this track. Unser's stay up front would last eleven laps before he was passed by Wally Dallenbach as he would battle all race long with Tom Sneva but it would be pit strategy that would determine who would win.
Bobby Unser's team gambled by taking left side tires only on their stop and was able to beat Sneva and Dallenbach out of the pits and Unser would go on cruise control. Points leader Rick Mears's team finally hit the setup they were looking for as he moved his way through the field but could only get up to second place as Bobby Unser would score his first career CART Series win.
Other Noticeables: Bobby Unser scored his 1st win of the year, Unser led 3 times for 55 laps, including the final 41 laps, It was the 1st win of his career in the CART Series in his 10th start, Larry Cannon, who finished 15th, made his CART Series debut, Rick Mears, who finished 2nd, kept his points lead, leading Gordon Johncock by 893 points
