The field has finished qualifying for the 14th race of the season the Miller High Life 150 at the Phoenix International Raceway.
Al Unser won the pole, with a time of 32.201 seconds, beating Herm Johnson by 0.041 seconds.
Other Noticeables: Al Unser won his 2nd pole of the year and second in a row, Unser won his 2nd career pole in the CART Series and his first since Atlanta; 1 race ago, Rick Mears, who will start 3rd, has already locked up the championship

Race #14 - Miller High Life 150
The CART Series made their 14th and final stop of 1979 at the Phoenix International Raceway, in Avondale, Arizona, for the Miller High Life 150.
A packed crowd was on hand at the Phoenix International Raceway for the season finale as the CART Series made their second ever stop at the one mile track. Al Unser quickly began to pull away from the field as a lack of cautions resulted in Unser completely dominating the day, losing the lead only during the lone pit stop of the race. Back out front Unser held off Gordon Johncock to score his second win of the season.
Other Noticeables: Al Unser scored his 2nd win of the year, Unser led 2 times for 149 laps, including the final 66 laps, It was the 2nd win of his career in the CART Series and his first since Trenton; 10 races ago, Rick Mears, who finished 14th, is the 1979 CART Series Champion, beating Gordon Johncock by 1,613 points

Little Al also won the real race!
As for the points, Rick Mears was also the 1979 champ in real life, but it was by 240 points over Bobby Unser.
