Race #2 - Dickies 200 Presented by Lucas Oil
It was a cloudy day in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada as the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series entered Round 2 of the 2008 season at the Mosport International Raceway for the Dickies 200 Presented by Lucas Oil.
Scott Steckly led the field to the Green Flag but it was Don Thomson Jr. who would lead the first laps as a threatening sky kept all drivers on the watch of the weather to see when they had to switch to rain tires. Andrew Ranger would take the lead and have a great race long battle with Scott Steckly as two late race cautions caused the race to be extended two laps by way of NASCAR's Green, White, Checkered rule. Just before they were about to, the clouds opened up and rained on the track causing the clouds to darken and make the racing surface.
Steckly would get a slow restart while everyone of the drivers all had slick tires and drove slowly around the track searching for grip, but J.R. Fitzpatrick, who restarted fourth, had moved his way up to second by the time Steckly got back to Turn 10 and took the white flag as Fitzpatrick pulled to the inside in Turn 1, having much better grip due to his rain tires his crew had applied back on Lap 30. Fitzpatrick was able to pull away from a struggling Steckly over the final lap and scored the win, leading only the final lap for his second career win.
Other Noticeables: J.R.
