Lap 264: 4 laps to go for Newman. He holds a 12 point advantage over Burton as they run. Joe Nemechek is reportedly out of gas and is now pitting for a splash of fuel.
Lap 265: 3 to go and here comes Bowyer to pit road! The leader gives it up with just a handful of laps remaining, saying he "heard it start to sputter" on the backstretch. Mayfield, Gordon, Burton, and Kvapil follow Bowyer and we've got a new race on our hands. Kyle Busch is now the leader with Newman in second, Stewart in 3rd, and Burton in 8th.
Lap 266: 2 to go. Newman is stalking Busch but obviously won't do anything drastic to try and win the race. If he holds steady, he wins the title by 16 points over Burton.
Lap 267: White flag, Newman on Busch's bumper! They're racing around the track with Newman hot on the heels of the #5 team, but Kyle is now starting to pull away on the backstretch. Down they go, into turn 3 for the final corner of the 2007 season. Busch and Newman both know a victory is in sights, and they turn a flawless corner. Coming out of turn 4, Kyle Busch wins the Ford 400 and Ryan Newman with the 2007 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series Championship! Congratulations to the #12 Penske Racing team on an incredible performance and fantastic season!

Bobby Ricky's Post-2007 Season Analysis:
It's all over, folks! Homestead brought us quite a bit of drama, but Ryan Newman braved it all and brought home Roger Penske's second career championship. Just as I thought they would! Well...to be fair, Burton's early-race issues likely gave Newman a distinct advantage from the get-go, but at least the 31 was able to manage a top-10, even though it wasn't enough for the championship.
As the curtain falls on the 2007 Nextel Cup season, I can't help but look back on all the greatness that we got this year. It all started with Casey Mears' unprecedented triumph in the Daytona 500, but the fun obviously didn't end there. This season also featured upset winners (with names like Stremme and Hamilton Jr.), great comeback stories (Kurt Busch being sidelined with a broken arm but not allowing it to ruin his season), shocking shockers (Defending champion Greg Biffle missing the Chase), and our fifth first-time champion in six seasons! 2007 was a great year for NASCAR, and I'm sure 2008 will bring even more memorable memories, courtesy of the Car of Tomorrow, Sprint taking over as title sponsor, and all those crazy driver changes!
Congratulations again to Ryan Newman and Team Penske, enjoy the offseason, and I'll see you at Daytona!

An alright season. Hopefully next year brings us a new beginning. We've got two new drivers, new cars, and some new resources that will hopefully build this team back up to where we once stood.

It's a shame that the #09 has not qualified. Congratulations to Ryan Newman and welcome 2008.

Not the best way to end this season, but the 27th place finish should give us some momentum heading into 2008. I'm proud that we beat Kevin Harvick when he didn't blow the engine or something like that, granted, he crashed early, but finished running, so it's a success. I'll see you in Daytona with Fontaine and I behind the wheel!

Champions!
Roger Penske Statement: "YES! YES! Wow... what a way to finish the season. Shout out to the guys over at RCR for prepping a great car for Jeff and keeping the chase tight. As for our 2007 season.. it's one that will go down in the record books at Penske Racing. We won the 500 with Casey and that elusive 'big one', 'the one for all the marbles'... the Nascar Nextel Cup Championship. It took every member on the team, from Ryan, to the tire changers, even the guys who fabricate the cars to turn our dream of a championship into reality. It's been a great run and watch for us in 2008!"
Ryan Newman Statement: "Wow.. I'm speechless. This is the biggest moment if my life. Thanks to all the guys on the crew and at the shop who made this championship happen. Oh, this is too much.. *starts crying*"
