1990 Denver Post 400
In the shadow of America's most famous mountain, Mark Martin continued his pursuit of Bill Elliott in the points battle. The race ended with Geoff Bodine picking up his third win of the year, with Andy Sammonds in second. Sammonds has moved to third in standings, and could actually put himself within striking distance for his second championship. Katie Sammonds, on the other hand, continues her sophomore slump, as she was involved in a wreck and failed to finish. Next stop: Pocono.

1990 AC Spark Plug 500 Last year, Pocono had two races. This year, Pocono and Michigan lost their June dates due to being in close proximity to their other dates. Katie Sammonds was hoping for a threepeat at the Tricky Triangle, but was involved in a wreck early in the race. Andy Sammonds, meanwhile, was a contender for the win until he was shuffled back to 13th when poor planning by all teams caused a green-flag pit cycle to occur in the closing laps. This gave Harry Gant his first win of the year. With her spate of poor finishes, Katie has fallen out of top-10 in points, while Andy remains third in points, and Mark Martin continues his pursuit of Bill Elliott. Next stop: Talladega.

I see you went with my bribery idea. Of course, I wasn't intending for it to be ACTUALLY used in the narrative, but if you think it's the right thing, that's fine with me.

1990 DieHard 500 One of five restrictor-plate tracks on the NASCAR circuit, Talladega Superspeedway played host to yet another high-speed race. Only one caution came out all day for a minor wreck involving Rick Wilson, who continued on. Neither of the PCR cars had good days. Andy Sammonds finished off the lead lap, while Katie Sammonds had another piston failure. This time, though, she didn't wield the bad piston like a bat, instead stating in an interview with CBS pit reporter Mike Joy that she believed that there was a rat in PCRs ranks working for Alan Kulwicki. On the Monday following the race, Kulwicki denied any involvement in sabotage, still haunted by the memories of both Darlington races in 1989. Several small-time drivers managed to lead the race, including Irv Hoerr and Jack Pennington, but at the end of the day, Geoff Bodine picked up his fourth win of the year. Next stop: Progressive Speedway.

1990 ShowBiz Pizza 500 The second race at the newly-opened Progressive Speedway in Salt Lake City, Utah, this race was...well, this was the first caution: The Big One starts early in the race, as Davey Allison is turned into the wall and gets on his side. The melee continues. Jack Pennington is sent upside down. Pennington slides down the backstretch while Katie Sammonds uses the crash as an opportunity to greatly improve her position. Pennington lands on all fours while Rick Mast slips by. He comes to a standstill, and manages to get out under his own power, a testament to the improved safety of the cars. The red flag was out for an hour. Afterwards, the only cautions were for debris. Andy Sammonds was an early contender, but faded early and finished off the lead lap. Katie Sammonds, conversely, was a strong contender for the win, finishing tenth. She stated after the race she had a newfound confidence in her abilities. Meanwhile, Darrell Waltrip managed to get the win after a heated battle. Next stop: Watkins Glen.

Yup, finally found the motivation to continue. 1990 Budweiser at the Glen Back to the road course for the Winston Cup Series, as the 1990 season continues. Geoff Bodine won the pole for a wild Watkins Glen race, which saw a large multi-car crash involving many drivers, including Rusty Wallace, Harry Gant, Katie Sammonds, Richard Petty, Rick Wilson, among many others. The crash began when Wilson did not check up in time before Turn 5, and he rear-ended Wallace. Wallace's car also made contact with Andy Sammonds' car, but the male Sammonds twin continued on to a 13th place finish as the first car off the lead lap. Richard Petty also continued to a 12th place finish, and Mark Martin survived the chaos for his fifth win of the year. Following the race, Katie Sammonds' poor finish was enough to plunge her to 15th in standings. Bill Elliott maintains his points lead over Martin, Dale Earnhardt sits in third, and Andy Sammonds in fourth, which is alot better than he expected. Next week, we head to Michigan International Speedway. Be there, or be square!

1990 Champion Spark Plug 400 Michigan is one of the fastest non-restrictor plate tracks on the schedule, and this race proved no different. Early on, it was a four-way battle for the lead between Dale Earnhardt, Mark Martin, and the Sammonds Twins, but ultimately, both PCR cars' days would be ruined by a large multi-car crash. Although Katie's car didn't look too bad, she still had to pull out when she began leaking oil, red-flagging the race for a bit. Andy, meanwhile, had heavy rear-end damage, but stubbornly pressed on, finishing off the lead lap. Meanwhile, Kyle Petty led for quite a while, and finished third, while Darrel Waltrip took home the win. After the race, Andy Sammonds fell to fifth in standings. We're on our way to Thunder Valley. Bristol is up next, all on ESPN!

1990 Busch 500 Short track racing under the lights was the focus at Bristol this past weekend. Early on, Larry Pearson managed to get on his side in a multi-car crash, but he continued on. Dave Marcis' day got off to a terrible start when his car scraped the outside pit wall, and he missed the start, joining the race after two laps. The PCR cars kept it rather clean for most of the day, Katie managing to lead quite a bit of the race. Unfortunately, though, she was involved in a wreck with a lap car, and dropped out. ESPN cameras caught her slamming her helmet into her car while Belle Sammonds, Andy's wife, tried to console her. Andy, meanwhile, also led quite a bit, managing to come home third. The winner, meanwhile, was Mark Martin for the sixth time this season, with Dale Earnhardt once again second. The points standings didn't change much, though Martin's points deficit against Bill Elliott is now down to 132. The Southern 500 is coming up, so keep it here! And yes, it will be sabotage-free.

1990 Heinz Southern 500 Labor Day Weekend means something different to everyone. To most, it means a three-day weekend. But for NASCAR, it means a return to Darlington, the Lady in Black, the Track Too Tough to Tame. This year's Southern 500 was a thriller. Andy Sammonds started on the pole, and led the most laps. He would've won, too, and completed the Unocal 76 Challenge, had it not been for a rear-ending incident with a lap car. Even with a wounded rear-end, Sammonds rallied for a fifth-place finish. Katie Sammonds was another strong contender, also leading quite a bit, and finishing eight. She considered this finish a break for her. A late caution saw a two-lap dash to the finish, which ended with Mark Martin winning for the seventh time this season. Richard Petty was a factor throughout the race, and there was alot of speculation among the ESPN crew if he was going to get win #201. Alas, he finished fifth, but it was better than he has been performing lately. With his strong finish, Andy Sammonds slipped back into fourth in standings, and the points gap between Elliott and Martin is now 79 points. Next week is Richmond.
