Round 6: DieHard 100

The NR2002 ASCS arrived at Talladega Superspeedway for 38 laps of drama. And drama we got! Highlight reel:

Points leader Dale Earnhardt leads the field of 42 to green.

The drivers were battling hard in the early stages.

Only 5 laps in, Harry Gant, Dale Jarrett, and Kurt Busch go for a spin in the backstretch grass. Surprisingly, no caution was called.

One lap later, the caution DOES arrive after a Mike Skinner/Jimmy Spencer tango goes horribly awry.

The Labonte brothers battle for the lead as the halfway point approaches.

After said halfway point, Skinner finds himself being lapped by the leaders, starting with his teammate.

As the race entered its closing stages, 8 of the sport's biggest stars were battling for victory. That's Richard Petty back there in 8th.

He wouldn't stay there though. When the field came to lap Skinner a second time, the 43 found the momentum needed to take the lead! As he took the white flag, Petty had some competition closing in on him.

Labonte, Burton and Elliott put up a good fight...

...but in the end, The King held 'em all off and cruised to his first victory of the season!

Tough break for Ken Schrader, going down with a piston failure 9 laps from the finish. But kudos to Dale Jarrett for recovering from that spin and making it to 21st by the end of the race.

Round 7: Jackpot 80

The NR2002 ASCS hit the luckiest city on Earth, Las Vegas, for a 54-lap shootout at LVMS, where Lady Luck shined on only one lucky driver (and very brightly, I might add) So who was lucky and who wasn't? To find out, you'll have to check out the highlights...and here they come now!

Mark Martin and Dale Earnhardt Jr take us to the green flag.

After only 2 laps, Tony Stewart and Harry Gant tangle and get into the wall.

Seconds later, Gant is T-boned by the 44 of Kyle Petty, ending both their days.

During the race back to the line, Ward Burton and Johnny Benson hit the wall in turn 4, with the force being brutal enough to roll the 22 over...but only one roll was counted. Both Burton and Benson saw their days end as well.

As did Michael Waltrip, who was unsuccessful in avoiding the 10.

Bobby Labonte pulls ahead of Martin on lap 9.

And the 18 would use this opportunity to take command, pulling away from the field as the laps progressed.

Meanwhile, the other Labonte (Terry) was looking to rebound after being slowed by the lap 2 fracas. At the halfway point, he was within striking distance of the top 10...

...and with 10 to go, #5 was in the top 5!

But it would be the younger Labonte brother hitting the jackpot in Vegas, claiming victory by 6.5 seconds over the rest of the field.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:

After Round 10 of our season, the NR2002 ASCS will be hosting an all-star event at the Coca-Cola Superspeedway! To be eligible for this event, a driver must be a race winner, a pole winner, or both!
Under this criterion, the drivers currently qualified for the event are as follows:
Dale Earnhardt
Bill Elliott
Bobby Labonte
Terry Labonte
Mark Martin
Jeff Burton
Richard Petty
Dale Jarrett
Kevin Harvick
Ken Schrader

In addition, other drivers will be added through an "All-Star Open" event that will take place before the main race. How many drivers will advance from the open is yet to be determined. Stay tuned for further updates.

Glad you're enjoying this, but don't get too excited. Labonte's still 154 points behind Earnhardt, and I have a feeling Big E will be keeping the points lead for quite sometime.

For now, just be glad that your driver has now punched his ticket to the Coca-Cola All-Star Showdown.

Race 8: Pocono 100

The All-Star Cup Series put on a show at the Tricky Triangle in Pennsylvania. Despite being caution-free, the race saw several drivers finish in positions you wouldn't expect them to finish.

Highlights:

Dale Jarrett and Tony Stewart lead us to green.

Smoke pulls ahead on lap 2.

The 20 and 88 spent the early stages of the race battling for top spot.

Just past the halfway point, DJ gets challenged for the second spot!

In the closing stages, Matt Kenseth blows a tire. His pit crew is quick to fix the problem, but not before the 17 falls way back in the standings.

Many would challenge Tony Stewart for the lead...

...but all would fail, as Smoke becomes the 8th different winner this season and punches his ticket to the Coca-Cola All-Star Challenge!

Round 9: Monster 80

The ASCS headed to Delaware for a shot at taking on Dover Downs International Speedway, known by many as "The Monster Mile". This monster isn't easy to tame, but one driver seemed to know what they were doing!

The Highlights:

Dale Jarrett leads the field to green for the second straight race.

But it would be Bill Elliott leading the first of 80 laps in this event.

The biggest surprise of the day? How about Elliott Sadler, who stayed in the top 10 for pretty much the day after qualifying 6th, and recorded the first top-10 finish of his otherwise mediocre season!

Handsome Harry Gant and other big names battle for position at the halfway point.

In the closing laps, the Coors Ford in quite a traffic jam...

...but that failed to intimidate Awesome Bill from Dawsonville, who became the first multi-race winner of the ASCS season!

As you can see by these results, Elliott really dominated the day, only half the field finished on the lead lap, and the 9 car played a big role in that! The race being caution-free was likely a factor as well.

Elliott's win puts him 53 points behind Dale Earnhardt, who may finally have a true rival in the championship hunt! Bobby Labonte isn't too far behind in the hunt either (That's what I get for telling labontefanboy not to get too excited after the 18's win at Vegas).

Stay tuned, The Coca-Cola 120 @ Lowe's Motor Speedway is next. After that, don't miss the Coca-Cola All-Star Challenge @ The Coca-Cola Superspeedway! We currently have 11 drivers qualified for the main event, will Lowe's give us one or two more?

One more thing, it has been decided that the top 5 finishers in the All-Star Open will advance to the main event, though it is not currently known if series officials will hold a fan vote to add a 6th driver from the Open list (In other words, I won't be doing a "fan vote" unless I know people are actually following this. I don't wanna put up a poll and have votes from only myself and 1 or 2 others).

Now that I think about it, I might just be the least busiest person on these boards. I've been a high school graduate since June of 2012, but I currently have no interest in finding a full-time career. Thus, I have much more free time compared to everyone else here.

Now before anybody says anything, I am not trying to force you people into making more comments about my season. I understand that you all have lives, and I fully and completely respect that.

Even with the supposed "lack of attention", I do have plans to finish this season. And afterward, I'll likely start a second season after a brief break.

Again, I am not trying to pull you people away from your personal lives, I just wanna be sure that I'm not posting to an empty crowd of nothingness, even if that crowd I do have is mostly the silent type that almost never says anything. I enjoy doing this project, and I know those who follow it enjoy it too. That said, I think I have a better idea as to figuring out how many followers I have. After the Coca-Cola 120 (which will be run this weekend), I'll put up a poll asking for your opinion as to who has the best shot at the championship. The number of people who vote on that poll will determine whether or not I do a fan vote for the Coca-Cola All-Star Showdown (which will be done in a separate thread).

I've been a graduate for almost a year, and have had a tough time getting a job, because where I am, nobody wants to hire someone without job experience, which drives me nuts.
