I think it's time for NR2002 to get some mock season love. Thus, I proudly light the torch on my fictional mock season: The NR2002 All-Star Cup Series!

Basically, the purpose of this mock season is to answer the question: "Who's the best among this group?" For instance, can the version of Terry Labonte that won the championship in 1996 outperform the version of his brother that would claim the championship four years later? This project should answer that, and many similar questions this roster presents.

Races will be 20% length, and the schedule...is still being finished up. However, I can say that the first race will be at Daytona and the last race will be at the Daytona night track. I'll post the full schedule once I get it finished up, and Race 1 should be posted tomorrow.

Hope this idea isn't too outlandish for you guys!

Race was pretty dramatic (It's Daytona, what'd you expect?). Harvick passed Jarrett shortly after the white flag, and there was only 1 caution, for Nemechek and Marlin tangling while battling for position on the backstretch with 10 laps to go. I'd go into more detail, but I'm having trouble getting screens of the race on here, and it kinda frustrated me. I promise to be more elaborate next race.

Round 2: Pop Secret 80

The Start

Lap 5: Bobby Labonte snags position 1 from Ken Schrader

Lap 25: Labonte scrapes the wall, Dale Earnhardt takes command

1st caution: Ryan Newman & Jeff Burton tangle

During the 1st of 3 caution periods, Casey Mears has an idiot moment when he drives into the pit separator. That would be the end of his day.

2nd caution: The 99 screws up again, and the field goes all-out to avoid the Exide Ford...

...not everyone was lucky though, this is Ward Burton a second before plowing into his brother and ending both their days (a few other cars got tangled, but they continued)

3rd caution: Jeff Gordon, Mike Skinner, and Greg Biffle go around, with Skinner getting smacked in the rear end by Johnny Benson's #10. Surprisingly, Skinner continued

Dale Earnhardt takes the checkered flag to cap off a dominating performance @ The Rock!

Round 3: Cracker Barrel 100

The state of Georgia had a peachy-keen afternoon with the NR2002 ASCS, which ran its first caution-free race of the season! The highlights:

Awesome Bill from Dawsonville leads the 42 combatants to the start of the 65-lap showdown

Jeff Burton goes up into the wall early on. He got back on track, but not before losing a lot of momentum.

Later on, Elliott Sadler and the M&M's Ford touch the wall, but make a sweet recovery (no pun intended).

By lap 20, the field had gone from crowded and crash-prone to stretched-out and safe.

After several laps of follow the leader (Dale Jarrett), Mark Martin pulls ahead when the Quality Care Ford tags the wall on lap 41.

Upon claiming the lead, Martin would not let up. With help from slower cars, he would build a 3-second lead over Jarrett by the final lap and claim victory in Round 3 of the NR2002 All-Star Cup Series Season!

Round 4: Pontiac Excitement 80

Terry Labonte won the pole, but ran into problems right from the start. This would force him into pit road on lap 3.

While that was going on, Mike Skinner and Ricky Craven tangle in turn 3 and drift up the track, collecting Richard Petty (who surprisingly continued and recorded a 15th-place finish).

The drama didn't end there though. As the rest of the field scrambled to dodge the calamity, Greg Biffle gets turned and jams multiple cars into a mini-pileup. This incident as a whole would end the days of both Skinner and Biffle.

On the restart, Bill Elliott (who gained advantage from The Iceman's sudden meltdown) would get a jump on the field and not look back.

Thanks to there being no other cautions to slow down the race, Elliott would build on his lead as the laps trickled down, and it all came together at the end when Awesome Bill from Dawsonville claimed his first win of the season...and also became the fourth different winner this season.

Round 5: Lone Star 100

The NR2002 ASCS said "Howdy!" to the state of Texas for a 67-lapper at the Texas Motor Speedway. The Highlights:

Green Flag! Giddyup!

Front row starters Jeff Burton and Terry Labonte spent the first half of the race battling for top spot, which Labonte claimed on lap 14.

Just past the halfway point, Alan Kulwicki and Joe Nemechek tangle while fighting for position.

The impact left the 01 sideways in the middle of the track. Luckily, everyone steered clear, and Front Row Joe got going before anything else could happen.

The caution period put many other drivers, such as Dale Earnhardt, Jimmie Johnson, and Mike Skinner, in contention for victory...

...but in the end, it was Texas Terry, with hometown pride on his side (as well as the need for redemption after what happened at Richmond), scoring his first victory of the season!
