The battle for the lead was fierce during the first 100 laps as Jarrett, Jack Ingram and Tommy Ellis all pulled away and made it a three car race, but Ellis would hit the Turn 2 wall just before halfway and Ingram would take advantage on his mistake and took the lead, pulling away over the last remaining laps to score an important win.

Jack Ingram would take the lead and looked on his way to score yet another win, but his car faded allowing Butch Lindley to take over and lead, but each lap Ronnie Silver's car got better and better, and despite losing a lap early due to a pitroad incident, he would take the lead with alittle over 100 laps to go and score his second ever win in NASCAR.

Race #17 - Mason Day Paving 200
The NASCAR Budweiser Late Model Sportsman Series had to travel back down the east coast for the 17th stop of the season in Rougemont, North Carolina, the site of the Orange County Speedway for the Mason Day Paving 200.
Dale Jarrett led the field to the green flag on a clear night but it was Sam Ard getting a great jump and taking the lead heading into Turn 1 as Ard was looking to improve on his point lead as much of the night, drivers showed respect to one another, as the caution flag would fly only three times, one of them being for a wreck in Turn 3. Ard would lead much of the event before the final fifty laps began to get intense.
Jack Ingram, who had beat Sam Ard for the 1982 title, had picked his way through the field and onto Ard's back bumper and for the last ten laps it was an intense battle between the two drivers before sadly lap traffic spoiled a great finish and allowed Ard to pull away and score the win.
In victory lane, Ard proclaimed that quote "That battle with Ingram was one of the best races I've had in this series, if it wasn't for lap traffic at the end I'm sure we would have been nose to nose at the finish line."
Other Noticeables: Sam Ard scored his 4th win of the year, Ard scored his 8th career NASCAR Budweiser Late Model Sportsman Series win and his first since Hickory 3 races ago, Ard led 4 times for 176 laps, including the final 6 laps, Jimmy Jennings(12th) and Steve Hauser(22nd) made their NASCAR Budweiser Late Model Sportsman Series debuts, Ard, who finished 1st, kept his points lead, leading Jack Ingram by 59 points
