Race #35 - Cardinal 250
The NASCAR Budweiser Late Model Sportsman Series had to travel up the east coast far for the 35th and final stop of the season in Martinsville, Virginia, the site of the Martinsville Speedway for the Cardinal 250.
Phil Parsons led the field to the Green Flag but it would be Dale Jarrett who would quickly begin to dominate the forty two car field as the tricky Martinsville track would have a total of 19 cautions, the third time in six events at the track where there had been 19 cautions. Heading into the event, Sam Ard was looking to score redemption as one year earlier, Ard had lost the 1982 championship to Ingram by 12 points but this time Ard had racked up an incredible season and came into Martinsville with a 123 point lead. With Dale Jarrett dominating and scoring an easy win, Ard had to finish in the top 30 to score the championship and did just that by finishing 11th and scoring his first ever NASCAR Budweiser Late Model Sportsman Series Championship.
Other Noticeables: Dale Jarrett scored his 4th win of the year, Jarrett led 2 times for 242 laps, including the final 167 laps, It was the 5th win of his career in the NASCAR Budweiser Late Model Sportsman Series and his first since Orange County; 4 races ago, Elton Sawyer(13th), David Triplett(25th) and Tim McGuire(33rd) made their NASCAR Budweiser Late Model Sportsman Series debuts, Sam Ard, who finished 11th, is the 1983 NASCAR Budweiser Late Model Sportsman Series Champion, beating Jack Ingram by 93 points

1983 NASCAR Budweiser Late Model Sportsman Series Year End Review
Alittle over a year ago I started the second season of the NASCAR Busch Series and it was a lot of fun to see these old paint schemes and drivers racing around on classic tracks. The second season of NASCAR'S secondary series was exciting all season long as we saw races that had photo finishes, big wrecks, drivers winning by several laps and last lap passes.
Just like in real life, Sam Ard and Jack Ingram battled for the championship for the second year in a row as both drivers would swap the points lead 30 out of the 35 races as Ard's dominating season would lead him to the championship in the season finale at Martinsville.
Here are the general stats of the year and here is hoping that the 1984 season will be as fun as the first two!
