Race #5 - Craftsman 200
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series made their fifth stop of 1997 at the Portland Speedway, in Portland, Oregon, for the Craftsman 200.
Bob Keselowski led the field to the green flag and would surprise a lot of people and led for nearly the first forty laps before mechanical issues ended his day early. Rick Crawford, a rookie in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, would also surprise quite a lot of people, running up in the Top 5 all day and even led during the early stages of the event. Phoenix winner Jack Sprague would soon find himself in the lead as well and looked to be pulling away until a caution came out the required drivers to pit for fuel.
As drivers pitted, Sprague gave up the lead to Butch Miller and then Tobey Butler before Crawford would lead briefly before Rich Bickle would take command. Bickle would pull away ever so slowly after each lap, and despite two cautions over the last 100 laps, Bickle was able to maintain his lead and score his first win of 1997.
Other Noticeables: Rich Bickle won his 1st race of the year, Bickle scored his 3rd career NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series win and his first since Watkins Glen 15 races ago, Bickle led 1 time for 102 laps, including the final 102 laps, Dave Goulet(16th) made his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut, Rich Bickle, who finished 1st, kept his points lead, leading Jack Sprague by 14 points
